1. Are you an Essential Worker?

I am. I work in the online grocery department at Walmart. People place their orders, we shop for them, and take it out to their cars to load their vehicles. You can imagine how busy we are lately. We don't have enough people or equipment, so every day is high stress and physical.

2. How many drinks have you had since the quarantine started?

None. I'm not really a drinker. Though I did desperately want a drink on Monday, I was in such a hurry to leave and get home that I forgot to stop and buy something.

3. If you have kids... Are they driving you nuts?

No kids. Ever, lol.

4. What new hobby have you taken up during this?

God, I wish. I'm so exhausted and sore when I get home from work I don't have the brain capacity to do much. I've been watching a lot of Buzzfeed Unsolved and reading fic for it. I'm less emotionally invested in that fandom, so it's easier for me to read. McShep fic gives me ALL THE FEELS and I just cannot.

5. How many grocery runs have you done?

About four? Once every two weeks or so. We're well stocked on toilet paper and hand sanitizer. We can only fit so much food in our tiny freezer, so I can't do REALLY BIG shopping. Because I work at Walmart I can pick up odds and ends as I need them, though.

6. What are you spending your stimulus check on?

Most of it is going into my savings account. My family is plagued by bad luck, so eventually I'm going to need it to fix the car, or take the dog to the vet.

7. Do you have any special occasions that you will miss during this quarantine?

Not really? My family doesn't really do much. Thanksgiving and Christmas are really the only holidays we go big for.

8. Are you keeping your housework done?

It's getting done, but only because I don't have to do it lol.

9. What movies have you watched during this quarantine?

None. I've been meaning to watch Knives Out, but like I said, I mostly just marathon Buzzfeed Unsolved until it's time for me to go to bed.

10. What are you streaming with?

Youtube for BFU. But I have Hulu through a friend, Netflix, Amazon Prime through a family member, and Disney+.

11. 9 months from now is there any chance of you having a baby?

Holy shit no.

12. What's your go-to quarantine meal?

We're really just eating the same things we always do.

13. Is this whole situation making you paranoid?

God, yes. Because I'm interacting with people all day at work, and you can't tell if someone is asymptomatic or not...it's a constant low-level beat of anxiety.

14. Has your internet gone out on you during this time?

No, but it has slowed down. Tumblr takes longer to load sometimes.

15. What month do you predict this all ends?

Given how cases are still going up every day, I'm going to say August. We aren't going to have a working vaccine for awhile. The disease is going to continue to spread.

16. First thing you’re gonna do when you get off quarantine?

I'm not being quarantined. But when it calms down somewhat, I'm going to take 4 days off. I really, really need a break from work.

17. Where do you wish you were right now?

Home. I just really want several days in a row where I can stay home and sleep and relax.

18. What free-from-quarantine activity are you missing the most?

The ability to go to sit-down restaurants with my boyfriend or family member(s).

19. Have you run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer?

Nope, we are WELL stocked up on that.

20. Do you have enough food to last a month?

If I absolutely COULD NOT go out for a month - no. Not even close. We just don't have the space to store that much food in our trailer. But if necessary, I could leave my card outside (hidden, of course) for my brother to grab. He could shop for us, leave the food on the porch, and we could bring it in when he leaves.

Bedding. I'm not too picky about my bedding - comes from being poor. I imagine like all things there's very fancy bedding - maybe with high thread counts, like sheets? IDK. But I like my room to be cold while I sleep, so I can be buried under lots of blankets. When I say lots of blankets, I mean lots: it isn't unheard of for me to have 5 or 7 blankets on my bed during the winter, when everyone else has only 3. I like to be cozy :) I've thought about getting weighted blankets, because part of it is I like that feeling of being weighed down a little.

Fire. I like fireplaces and camp fires and things. It's soothing to watch the flames and feel the heat. Though with camp fires comes mosquitos, and they REALLY love me. My great aunt was in a fire and has a burn on her neck, so growing up my dad was always afraid of fire.

Silence. I can't sleep in a room that's dead quiet - I have to have a fan or some other white noise. I'm not good with silence between myself and another person unless I'm comfortable with them. Otherwise my brain is going, "Say something! It's silent, think of a topic to discuss, this is so awkward." But I'm an introvert and value my alone time, so as long as I'm not trying to sleep, I can enjoy it.

Day Two: If you were able to insert yourself into one fandom as your reality, what would it be? Bonus: How different would you be in that reality?
I'm going to go with Schitt's Creek. A place where homophobia doesn't exit, and it lacks the mortal danger of most of my other fandoms. Plus, it's a small town. You don't really need specialized training to be there, unlike Atlantis. I'm not one of those people who have big dreams for their life, who wants to do important stuff. I just want to be happy.

Day Three: What character do you think you would end up being best friends with? Bonus: What other character would you and your new bestie give a hard time to?
Chuck. Chucknician. AR-1 (and the rest of the senior staff) are a close-knit bunch and I don't think I could really form a deep relationship with any of them. But Chuck exists in the background, the periphery, and that's where I like to be. I don't like attention lol. Plus he seems to have a good sense of humor, and I would love to be "in the know" of all the betting pools he fanonly runs. It'd be fun to know the rumors without being subject to them.

I'm much to empathetic to give anyone a hard time, but I like to playfully tease friends.

squidgiepdx, explained in full here. There are only 15 questions, so I'm going to try and answer every other day to spread it out. Though maybe I'll get super excited and post every day, I don't know lol.

Day One: We all have that ONE fandom, or OTP. But what would you consider your backup fandom? Bonus: Who is your backup OTP? Same fandom or different?

Nobody will be surprised to read my one fandom is Stargate Atlantis, and that my one pairing is John Sheppard/Rodney McKay.

But backup fandoms/OTPs is a much more difficult question. I tend to cycle through secondary fandoms as the mood strikes. 90% of the time I'm reading McShep, it's only a very small portion of time I read other things. So. Backup fandom. I went to my pinboard and I opened my various fandom tags, then picked the two with the highest number. I have 470 fics bookmarked for H50 and 282 fics for Star Trek. I haven't actually read new H50 fic in ages - the majority are old bookmarks.

So: my backup fandom is Star Trek, Spirk specifically. I love TOS Kirk and Spock's friendship and support. But I also love nu!Kirk and Spock's more adversarial relationship, and how things might grow from there. And now I want to read some of that fic LOL.

Most of my WIPs don't have 7 pages (yet), so I just chose a passage I liked. I love soulmate AU's and wanted to try my hand at one. I'm basing my "soulmate" idea off Sharon Shinn's Samaria series, where at birth everyone has a crystal implanted in their arm (called a Kiss), which lights up when a person meets their soulmate.

I want to post another snippet because I was tagged twice :P SO. I was working on a hooker!Rodney fic, because it's usually John, unless Rodney is young in the fic. It's very loosely based on the Kushiel Legacy series, where the dominant religion of the world considers prostitution a sacred service. Rodney was chosen to serve when he was young and pretty (but still legal). As he grew, however, he became more of an aquired taste (people are dumb), so his House decided to make him their financial officer. However, if a 'client' requests Rodney, he's still required to serve.

I decided to just post almost all that I have (which is quite long). It was written a long time ago, so I'll probably end up fussing with it if/when I pick it back up.

Three positive things!

McShep-Everyday broke 1,000 followers! AHHHH, this is huge for me. I had no idea it would grow so big. I started the tumblr because the ones already made had been abandoned, and I wanted a steady, daily thing of McShep on my dash.

I will be doing online training tomorrow at work, so part of my 10 hour day will be spent sitting down. I am grateful it worked out the way it did, since I still have my cold. I'll still have to help out if we get a line of customers, but on the whole I should be on my butt.

I got a new phone! It's my first smart phone, so I'm kind of ??? about a lot of it, but I'm pretty excited. Now I can get on the internet during my breaks at work *grins*

The cold is still holding strong, as mentioned. I didn't eat for a large portion of today because my stomach was meh, but I ended up feeling nauseated because of it. Took a shower, ate some toast, and took a nap - and I feel better. I'm hoping when I wake up tomorrow I will feel even better :P I've been drinking a lot of water (mostly to soothe my throat, but also to get the cold out faster). Fingers crossed for improvement!

brumeier challenged me to post 3 postive things for 5 days :D I think I could use some positivity while I'm still at home, waiting for the fun of Squee Weekend to begin.

I may not have to spend the 3 hours between classes sitting around at school. I could nap!

I learned today that I am going to get Person in Charge training, so if an emergency comes up at work, I will be capable of closing the store on my own. This may come with a mariad of problems, but it does speak to their trust in my abilities :D

I'm almost done with my Favorite Episodes of TOS/TNG rewatch, which means soon I will be starting my Farscape rewatch. Yesssss.

I'm coming down with a cold, sadly. My throat is bothering me, my nose is runny, and I'm sneezing a lot. I'm drinking a lot of water, however, and I hope that'll push it through fast. Honestly, I have the worst luck.

Gonna try and write tonight. We'll see how that goes - I always plan to write and then end up watching stuff and reading instead~

Sorry I'm so late with this; I haven't been home for the past few days.

Day 07: List three fics that changed how you felt about a character.

1. Of Duty, Atonement, and Redemption by

sgcgategirl - Gen. This is one of those post-Trinity fics, and it comes with what you'd expect it to: lots of Rodney!whump and John and Elizabeth acting like asses for the better part of the fic. (Sometimes I just want to read about my favorite character being whumped - and the people who caused it feeling regret). This fic changed how I thought of Lorne, because when John and Elizabeth were too angry to notice how their actions were affecting Rodney, Lorne saw. Lorne saw, and he tried to befriend Rodney and alleviate some of the isolation and hurt that Rodney was feeling. Rodney was constantly pushing him away, but Lorne continued to try, and it was this fic that really set me on the road of feeling much love for Lorne.

2. Kaleb Miller and the Green Knight by

saffronhouse - McShep. There are fics about Jeannie. They may be about Rodney (and John, or the entire team) visiting Canada for vacation. There are fics told from her point of view. This was the first I'd ever read that was told about Kaleb - from his point of view, even. This fic made him seem like a real person, made him 3D and real. He's amazing.

3. I can't think of a third. SORRY. I'll keep thinking about it, and maybe a month from now I'll come up with something - and then post about it.

Day 06: List three fics that have changed your life in some way.

1. Intersections by

kaneko - This fic changed my life. This was the first SGA fic I had ever read, even before watching an episode of the show. It was linked to me by the wonderful

sapphirestar_ who also took the time to make me a reclist so I had someplace to start (the SGA fandom is so large). This fic was my introduction to this fandom, to the tv show and ship that would become my passion for going on 3 years (or so) now.

2. Unsuffer Me by

shaenie - This was sort of a threshold fic for me. This fic is kinky without going to extremes, and I remember reading this fic and finding it all unbelievably hot. This fic set me on the road to discovering kink!fic, which I had never had any interest in. It lead to

xanthe's BDSM Universe series, which opened my world to all sorts of other kinks (some I like, some I don't).

3. Indelible by

shaenie - I love this fic. When people ask for my favorite SGA fic, this is inevitably the one I name. I love the sexual tension, how it builds so slowly, and I love the author's OC and how she gave Lorne a large role in the fic. The plot is fantastic, the sexual tension is hot, and so is the relieving of that tension ;) It's long (yay!) and it was the first fic I downloaded when I got my Kindle. It changed my life, because it's now the standard against which I judge all of "Fandom Greats" (and some published books). Written by the Victors? Okay, but it's no Indelible. That Merlin fic Drastically Redefining Protocol? Good fic, great actually, but not as amazing as Indelible (IMO). I finished this fic, felt safisfied and in love and I remember thinking, "This is what all fic should aspire to be."

Day 05: List three fics that make you cry, every time you read them.

This fandom is extremely good at evoking emotion in its readers :) Oddly enough, this was the easiest one so far. As always, in no particular order:

1. The Price That Life Exacts by

cathalin - I wasn't sure I would even like this fic at first, since right off the bat we learn that John has had a kid with a Pegasus native. But oh, the emotions in this fic - I sympathized with Rodney so fucking much in this fic, felt his loss like it was my own, his pain at the idea of having a constant reminder of John around. The scene where Rodney watches John's tape of his last will and testament never fails to make me sob. Beautiful, heartbreaking, and so good.

2. Dearest Series by

lavvyan - The first installment always makes me cry, especially the last paragraph. And even the sequel, Precious, makes me tear up at the end. It's a fascinating 'verse, and I always wish it was this long epic, but it's wonderful as it is. I'm really grateful she didn't keep it as a oneshot.

3. Where We Ought To Be by

wojelah - I like Carson. I don't think he's Leading Man material, but I was fond of him as a supporting character, as a good friend. I'm aware that a large portion of the fandom thought he was creepy, but I though he was sweet. This fic is covers Carson's final journey home, accompanied by John and Rodney, after the events in Sunday. Carson's family was interesting, John and Rodney's interactions were wonderful, and I cried several times. Plus, I really like the scene where John and Rodney finally kiss ;)

Day 04: List three really long fics (minimum 25,000 words) that you really love.

I'm pretty sure this meme will be difficult forever!

1. Calling Down the Lightning by dreamwaffles (55498 words) - I love the fantasy genre. So SGA in combination with that is always a win to me. I can't think of a single thing I dislike about this fic :) John's reaction to Rodney's revelation makes sense within the context of the story, and I love Teyla and Ronon in this :D

2. Sheppard's Law by cesperanza (+ post-fic ficlet by bookshop) (34472 words) - It surprises me that I like this fic, since it contains John/Other (and I read fanfiction to read about John and Rodney getting together, not about them with other people. There are exceptions to my dislike of John/Other & Rodney/Other, however.) This is the story of John Sheppard growing into the man he is, with a little help from Rodney along the way ;) I loved John at all ages in this, and seeing Rodney through John's eyes at various ages is interesting :D

3. Checkmate 'Verse by beadattitude (50320 words) - It could be argued that this is a series rather than a single fic, but it could also be argued that this is a single fic, just broken up. I love cat!John, he makes a truly wonderful feline. This fic is one of my go-to happy!fics, despite some moments of angst. It's fun, it's cute, and it's long :D I love that John's cat adventures featuring other characters is explored, but that John stays with Rodney and initially trusts only him :)

I've talked about this fic on tumblr quite a bit, but I've never heard of anyone else reading it.

Event Horizon Books by daughtershade - This just barely made it over the word count minimum :D This was posted after the show was over, and as far as I know a link was never posted to mckay_sheppard. John runs a surf shop and Rodney owns a bookstore (with odd organization). John is sort of this mentor for local kids, and he draws a reluctant and grumpy Rodney into his world :D Featuring Rodney surfing, John being a BAMF, and oblivious!Rodney
