The June Something - Day 1

Starged by the incomparable squidgiepdx, explained in full here. There are only 15 questions, so I'm going to try and answer every other day to spread it out. Though maybe I'll get super excited and post every day, I don't know lol.

Day One: We all have that ONE fandom, or OTP. But what would you consider your backup fandom? Bonus: Who is your backup OTP? Same fandom or different?

Nobody will be surprised to read my one fandom is Stargate Atlantis, and that my one pairing is John Sheppard/Rodney McKay.

But backup fandoms/OTPs is a much more difficult question. I tend to cycle through secondary fandoms as the mood strikes. 90% of the time I'm reading McShep, it's only a very small portion of time I read other things. So. Backup fandom. I went to my pinboard and I opened my various fandom tags, then picked the two with the highest number. I have 470 fics bookmarked for H50 and 282 fics for Star Trek. I haven't actually read new H50 fic in ages - the majority are old bookmarks.

So: my backup fandom is Star Trek, Spirk specifically. I love TOS Kirk and Spock's friendship and support. But I also love nu!Kirk and Spock's more adversarial relationship, and how things might grow from there.  And now I want to read some of that fic LOL.

I can see that I need to take a nice, long stroll through the H50 section of your marvelous pinboard... but maybe after I've written a little more, since I'm likely to get lost for quite some time there. =D

Some of them are probably bookmarked "to read", which hides them from public view. But there should be lots to read, too :)

Definitely after you've written some more - I am greedy for your McShep fic!

I honestly didn't know Star Trek was your backup fandom! I don't think we talk about Star Trek enough at Squee.

I think it kind of defaults in LOL. It was either that or Netflix's Daredevil, because I reread those fics often. We don't talk about Star Trek enough at Squee! We should fix that ;) Though it wouldn't surprise me if part of it is because people ship different things in that fandom.

I love Star Trek TOS, but I can't ship people in it that much, mainly because I can't see Kirk without seeing Shatner :D (But I might believe in some Bones/Spock...) The friendship between Kirk, Bones, and Spock is really precious though ^_^

With the reboot, shipping somehow seems a lot more possible :D I've taken a peek at least at Kirk/Spock, Bones/Spock, and Kirk/Pike at some point.

Like Squidgiepdx said, we should talk more about Star Trek at squee! :D

I can separate Shatner from Kirk because Kirk is a Soft Boi and Shatner is not lol. Whereas I can't see Bones/Spock at all - I know they actually do care about each other, but Bones calling Spock "hobgoblin" and making comments about Spock's Vulcan-ness never sat well with me. I could see Reboot Bones/Spock before I can see TOS.

Reboot is really my main fandom - I'll read TOS Spirk if it comes highly rec'd, but otherwise...

We definitely need to talk about ST more at Squee!!

I was super into the Star Trek reboot when it came out and I go back to the fic occasionally. This reminded me to go back and find Don't Stop Believing which I think was still on LJ and a WIP getting to the endgame Kirk/Spock last I checked years ago but is now complete so I'm putting that in my to-read list again.

Before sg it was Man from Uncle. Still love the show but haven't been in the fandom for a while
