My spring break is almost over T_T
1. A favorite book!
Just one?
Sorry, I can't choose just one!
2. A book that affected you in your YA years.
Definitely harry potter. HP was what got me into fandom, into fanfiction. If I was asked about my early life, there was no way I could not mention harry potter.
3. A favorite fantasy novel.
Fantasy's my favorite genre, so choosing on specific novel is hard. It changes at any given moment, you see. But for the sake of answering a question, I'm going to go with the discworld series. It makes me laugh :)
4. A favorite sci fi novel.
The only one that comes to mind is the special agent pendergast series by douglas preston and lincoln child.
5. An awesome book (possibly a favorite) you think not many people around you have heard of/read.
the walker papers. Nobody has read that book T_T But it's fine, I'll fangirl about it on my own.
6. A book you own more than one copy of.
Haha, the chronicles of chrestomanci by diana wayne jones, but the only reason I have more than one book of that was because of a mistake.
7. An author whose every single book you own/will buy.
I'm pretty choosy about which books I buy, so...nobody. I have authors I like, but that doesn't mean I'll like every single book they ever wrote.
8. The worst book you've ever read.
lord of the rings. It's a classic, I know. But it was boring and too description-heavy. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep several times while reading it, and that never happens to me.
9. A book you dislike that lots of other people you know like.
As boring an answer as it is, twilight. Sadly, people whose taste in books I respected has gotten into twilight, it makes me so sad. Luckily, I also have friends that dislike the books, so I'm not forced to constantly listen to how good it is. >.<
10. The most difficult book you've ever read.
emma by...Jane Austen, I think. I hated the character Emma, so I had to force myself through the book.
11. Tell me what kind of books your mom reads/read.
The kind of books written by Stephen King and Clive Barker. Horror novels, creepy and twisted plots....she's the reason I like those books, actually. XDD
12. What have you read so far this year?
-- the walker papers by c.e. murphy (re-read)
-- black dagger brotherhood by j.r. ward
-- thirteen reasons why by jay asher
-- war for the oaks by emma bull
-- earth, my butt, and other big round things by carolyn mackler
-- daddy long legs by jean webster (re-read)
-- a dirty job by christopher moore
-- working for the devil (Dante Valentine series book 1) by lilith saintcrow
-- the mercy thompson series by patricia briggs (re-read)
13. What are you reading now?
the adrien english series by Josh Lanyon. I LOVE THIS SERIES. And it certainly helps that the main character is a good-looking, likable, gay man. XD
14. What are you reading next?
-- xanth series by piers anthony
-- the princess bride by william goldman
-- the discworld series by terry pratchett (re-read)
*EDIT* I just finished the "Adrien English Mysteries" series, and I WANT MORE. I'm addicted to that series, but I don't think any more books are out. D: D: D:

Date: 2009-03-14 11:24 am (UTC)Hmm what's the diskworld series about? Am curious~.
no subject
Date: 2009-03-15 02:53 am (UTC)The Discworld Series. There's this turtle called the Great A'Tuin, and on his back is four elephants. On those elephants' back is a world. Rather than being round, however, it's flat and shaped like a disc. The Discworld series is about the people that live on that world. Pratchett's a genius -- he makes fun of real-life events happening in our world. The Discworld is a pretty crazy place, where logic doesn't always rule the world. It's very funny, I highly recommend it (though I haven't read all of it).

Date: 2009-03-14 03:36 pm (UTC)First: The Princess Bride!!! I've only seen the film, I really want to read the book. It's one of my favourite films ever XD
Ahem. Discworld!! I always liked the Watch series best - I love Sam Vimes ^__^ But also the wizards, and Death, Susan... I think I like all of Pratchett's characters really XD
My mother read The Hobbit to me when I was very small, and it's still one of my favourite books. So I wanted to read LOTR as soon as I could, and it was a struggle but I don't regret it, lol.
I've heard of the walker papers but never had a chance to read it. What's it about?
no subject
Date: 2009-03-15 03:01 am (UTC)I've never seen the film or read the princess bride. But everyone talks about it so much, I have high hopes for it. I have the book in ebook format, if you want me to e-mail it to you I can. :)
I adore Rincewind. Really, his is the only books I've read, so I've heard of Sam Vines but that's all. That's why the books are on my To Read List. Pratchett's a genius, isn't he?! *Fangirls*
I haven't read the hobbit. So, it's not like LoTR? I wonder why they didn't make that into a movie...aww. Congratulations on managing to read it!
Here's the synopsis for the first book of walker papers:
Joanne Walker has three days to learn to use her shamanic powers and save the world from the unleashed Wild Hunt.
No worries. No pressure. Nevermind the lack of sleep, the perplexing new talent for healing from fatal wounds, or the cryptic, talking coyote who appears in her dreams.
And if all that's not bad enough, in the three years Joanne's been a cop, she's never seen a dead body — but she's just come across her second in three days.
It's been a bitch of a week. And it isn't over yet.
Joanne doesn't believe in all that supernatural/paranormal stuff, so she struggles to learn how to use powers so really doesn't want. And she keeps screwing up too, which makes situations worse. But I really like her character -- she's this tough, sarcastic, spiritually hurt person. *nod* Er. Sorry for babbling about it >.

Date: 2009-03-15 03:26 am (UTC)*Squeals* R-really?! Yes, please! I'd love you forever <3
Rincewind is awesome XD I have a photo of Pratchett signing a book for me. He's a proper gentlemen, I was actually heartbroken when I heard he had alzheimers.
It's more accessible than LOTR, and shorter lol. I do get warm fuzzy memories of less complicated days when I read it, though, so my opinion is obviously biased XD I think they are making a film of the Hobbit, but I wasn't a fan of the film versions of LOTR so I don't have high hopes. Lol I really didn't think it was that bad, but afterwards I did try to read The Silmarillion, which is the creation and background of Middle Earth, and gave up after the first chapter.
Sounds promising, I'll definitely give it a go! Lol you didn't babble, it's fine.
I'm much worse with things I get excited about.no subject
Date: 2009-03-15 03:33 am (UTC)I'll check your profile for your e-mail, and if I can't find it I'll PM you with mine, so you know not to delete my e-mail XD
ME TOO. T_T Why him?! He seems like such a sweetheart, and he's a literary genius. :(
lol Perhaps I'll give that book a go, then. My little cousin, who's about 14 has read it. Oh, you don't like the LOTR films? Ah, but you did mention you're a purist about books-to-movies (which is perfectly fine). I've never heard of The Silmarillion, before. LOL Was it that boring?
I have walker papers in ebook format too, actually. So
whenif you want to borrow them, just let me know!Haha, really? XD I like it when people fangirl about things. It gets me excited about them too.no subject
Date: 2009-03-15 04:12 am (UTC)I just received it, thank you again *offers tears of happiness* It'll be a while before I can read it, but there will probably be a lot of fangirling afterwards lol.
It's just not fair :( And it really annoys me when people refuse to read his books just on face value, because they're fantasy, and don't see what's underneath.
You should give it a go, although I can't say for definite you'd like it lol. Did your cousin enjoy it? It's not that the films were bad, they were visually exciting and it was pretty epic seeing them in the cinema. And I totally had a crush on Elijah Wood at the time, so that got me through, lol. I am such a book geek. The kid that sat of the back of the class reading all the time? That was me XD Yes. Yes, it was boring. Lol.
That's too kind ;__; I have nothing to offer you in return except my gratitude and devotion, and I have no idea what use they'd be to you.
I like it when people fangirl too, but it feels odd coming from me because I'm usually so reserved XDno subject
Date: 2009-03-15 04:23 am (UTC)You're so welcome! Please let me know what you think of it. I keep planning to read it, but other things distract me. XD Take your time reading it, by the way. Reading = fun, after all.
YES. People are missing out on so much awesome because they don't like fantasy books. It's their loss!
I'll find it in ebook format (I always read it in ebook first, so I know whether I want to spend the money to buy it) and give The Hobbit a go. My cousin liked it, yes. LOTR was what got me into Orlando Bloom. Legolas was my first Big Movie Crush XD Elijah Wood has such pretty eyes... ME TOO! In fact, I still read during class, lol~ Or daydream >_>
It's not a problem at all. I'd be really happy if someone I knew gave those books a chance, and I adore sharing books anyway. I don't need anything in return, you're a friend so there's no need.
LOL Fangirling allows your wild side to come out, eh?no subject
Date: 2009-03-15 04:45 am (UTC)I'm a ridiculously quick reader, but I like to read continuously, which I can't do with a bizillion assignments still to do lol.
It is one of those genres which is easily dismissed, and there's a fair amount of genericism in a lot of fantasy stories, but there's also plenty of gems too.
I confess I've never been an Orlando Bloom fan. Elijah does have pretty eyes, lol. Ahaha I daydream too much, but rarely in class. Mostly because all my lecturers talk really fast and don't know how to use powerpoint presentations to their advantage, so I'm trying to take notes left, right and centre and actually take some of the information in at the same time lol.
I've always said you should always give everything a chance (unless it's something really stupid or dangerous or whatever), and it sounds good so I'll be more than happy to read it. So kind ;__; I'm an insecure kind of person, so I always feel like I should be giving more than I am. But if the opportunity for me to aid you ever arises, I will do my best to do so!
Lol wild//irrational/emotional side, yeah XDno subject
Date: 2009-03-15 05:07 am (UTC)I read quickly as well :) Ugh, school once again ruins fun things. I was discussing with my friend why schools feel the need to make reading boring. It's just not cool.
It's so easily dismissed because it's full of crap. If people would just be willing to take the time to wade through the bad stuff...
That's fine XD Man, it must be no fun at all to have lecturers that talk that fast >.< Do you ever get writer's cramp from all that fast writing?
That's a very...*can't think of the word she wants to use*...positive outlook on things. XD Or maybe adventurous would be a better word? I'm willing to try things once, but if I don't like it, it's difficult to get me to try again. So, I'll send the Walker Paper books to you, shall I? *doesn't want to force them off on you* I'm very insecure myself :) *Pats your back* I know exactly how you feel. Thank you, that's so kind of you! *glomp*
LOL An apt description of any fangirl.no subject
Date: 2009-03-15 01:37 pm (UTC)I never enjoyed school, but I love uni. Although with all the time constraints and looking after oneself, I sometimes wonder if there wasn't more freedom at college. And as soon as I finish one assignment, I have to start the next. I'm starting to think I've become glued to my computer, lol.
You don't have any lecturers or teachers like that, then? Somehow it's the kind of thing that would happen to me. I do get writer's cramp a lot, lol.
I'm a very negative person, but my best friend is the opposite, and he's always getting me to try new things. You could say he bullied me into that way of thinking, the bastard. XD Yes, please! I'll do my best to read them promptly and give you my opinion on them. It's not easy being insecure, is it? *glomps back*
Lol I suppose it is. What scary people fangirls are XDno subject
Date: 2009-03-16 06:13 pm (UTC)And as soon as I finish one assignment, I have to start the next. I know exactly how this feels. The teacher's stack the homework up, so once I finish an assignment I have 3 others I need to worry about >.< *siigh* But it'll all work out. What are you going to school for?
Not this semester, I don't. I don't think I've had one quite like that, though I've had terrible teachers before. Aww, poor thing! Writer's cramp = no fun. Do you have a laptop? You could type your notes on that.
Everyone's keeps giving me very uplifting/positive advice that I never really follow. But it's good that you have someone that forces you to try new things; think of all the good things you must have seen/did.
Here's the folder with all my ebooks in them :) The Discworld books are all in a .rar file, let me know if you need me to extract them. Take your time, enjoy them! No, it really isn't all that easy :( *clings*
LOL But how wonderful they are when they're your friends :)no subject
Date: 2009-03-16 07:34 pm (UTC)Isn't it a nightmare? I'm surrounded by a sea of paper and text books and there's no shore in sight. What are you going to school for? Sometimes I wonder. Oh, but I'm reading History. The plan is to stay in education as long as possible, so I'll probably take my MA afterwards and then go on to become a lecturer. What do you study?
I do have a laptop, but I can't touch type *is ashamed*, so I'd never be able to take all the notes down, lol.
Positive people always think that they can talk negative people into not being negative any more. Change comes from within; when you find something you really want to go for and get the motivation, you'll do it ^__^ I'd never admit it to him, but I do owe him a lot. It's not like he doesn't rub it in my face every chance he gets, anyway XD
Thank you! I will savour them, possibly with a glass of sweet white and some candles. Probably not the candles, because they give me a headache. But I'll definitely take my time with them XD Aww.
Indeed!^__^no subject

Date: 2009-03-15 03:18 am (UTC)HE IS, OMG. He's smart and sarcastic and I really like his love interest, Jake (even if he can be a bit of an ass sometimes).
I haven't even seen The Princess Bride film D: I hope the book is just as good...
Um, I actually have all three (Discworld, Adrien English, The Princess Bride) in ebook format. So, if you really want to read some of them, I could e-mail them to you. But if you don't want to, it's fine! Some people don't like ebooks. I do, because it helps me figure out if I like the book enough to buy it XDD

Date: 2009-03-15 02:31 pm (UTC)besides, i've read this sga/discworld crossover so of course i'm intrigued, omg:DDDDD smart and sarcastic, hee! hehe, it does sound interesting, i'm thikning i really need to read it.
you haven't? you should, though, it's great! :D and EEEEEEEEEEEP REALLY OMG REALLY? I WANNA READ 'EM ALL. xD; that'd be wonderful ♥ to be honest, i don't know much about ebooks, i hardly even know what they are, lolol, butbutbut. that sounds great! would i need anything special for them? or can i just open them and read them on the computer? but seriously, that'd be wonderful, because i doubt i'm gonna be able to buy them anytime in the near future, so. :DD

Date: 2009-03-16 01:43 am (UTC)Really? That makes me more determined to watch SGA.^_______^ He's amazing! I wish you would. Then we could fangirl together XD
I think I might check TVShack for it, and if not then I'll just read the book first. REALLY REALLY XDDDDD. Um, the Discworld & Princess Bride files are in .pdf format --- can your computer read those? As for the Adrien English, my computer couldn't recognize what type of file they were, so I just went to "file > open with" and read them as .pdf's. It's also possible to read them as .html files...does that sound alright to you? If you run into problems, you can just PM me. I should warn you, too. Some of the Adrien English files were corrupted, so for the first two books question marks take the place of dialogue signs. So it looks something like, ?Don't touch the body!?
If you still want them, I'll upload them to mediafire and send you the links!

Date: 2009-03-16 01:16 pm (UTC)yes, really. XD john was an assassin and rodney was a witch. (yes, a man!witch.) :DDhehe, yeah! :D fangirling with you is always so fun, so yes, i reallyreally need to!
:D if you've seen, idk, like robin hood: men in tights you'll know how well cary elwes plays the cracky roles, and he's just awesome as westley. xDD; yep, my computer can read .pdf files, so it's all good. :D and that's alright, the bit about the adrien english files, i'm sort of used to it since some potter fanfic sites keep messing with the quotation marks, too, so. :D
SO GIMME GIMME GIMME, AND ILU. ♥ :DD

I LOVE robin hood: men in tights!! Oh, really? I'd never come across the question mark thing, I was like, "MINE EYES!" when I first started. Do you read a lot of harry potter fanfcis? You like....Sirus/Remus, don't you?
Here's the folder with all the ebooks I have uploaded at the moment. Enjoy! ILU TOOOO! *glomp-cuddle*

HEE, ME TOO. i don't even know how many times i've watched it, but it's been a while now so i should definitely re-watch it. because ahahahaha, it's so cracky, omg, WE'RE MEN, MANLY MEN, WE'RE MEN IN TIGHTS, WE ROAM AROUND THE FOREST LOOKING FOR FIGHTS! and um, yeah, remussirius, harrydraco, harrycedric, stuff like that. i don't read it much, anymore, it's been a while since i was actually in the fandom. mostly i just read some rs fics i see in the rs community.
HEEEEE. :DDDD THANK YOOOOOOU~ ♥ downloading now, omg, i'm so excited! hee, thank you! *choke-glomp*

Date: 2009-07-08 06:21 pm (UTC)3. The Agent Pendergast stories are amazing!! I absolutely adore all of them, and it really tries my patience when there's a new book out, since I like to wait until it comes out in paperback before buying it, if I can. Much cheaper that way (
as cheap as my reading hobby can be, anyway.)8. Oh. My GOD. That book, was torture. I loved the movies, but reading those books all the way through was absolutely painful. Way to descriptive, and the way he wrote their speech patterns almost did me in.
9. I haven't even read Twilight, but I really don't want to. Vampires aren't my thing, and I've heard so many bad reviews from fellow book-lovers that it doesn't remotely interest me now.
14. If you haven't gotten to The Princess Bride yet, I feel I should forewarn you: he rambles. A lot. There were times when I just skimmed over his comments to get back to the story.
Anyway, <3. You'll probably see several comments from me in the next couple days. I'm playing catch-up. XD
<3

Date: 2009-07-10 03:00 am (UTC)3. I liked the books and read them all up to the one where Pendergast's...charge? That frail female chick, I can't remember her name. Anyway, she ends up falling in love with Pendergasts evil twin (that so sounds corny) and getting pregnant. I was just so angry with her that I couldn't finish the book. But they're definitely worth a look, and I love how Pendergasts views everyone from the first book as his friends.
8. YES. I CANNOT READ IT. From as far as I got, there were no speech patterns to be upset with. It was just so much description, I just wanted to sleep!
9. Oh, don't. I love Vampires and Werewolves, I'm very much into fantasy/urban fantasy. But I couldn't even get through the first Twilight book, and that was BEFORE it was famous, and way before it was popular to hate the book.
14. Oh? Nobody has ever told me he rambles. I'm still eager to read it though -- I have a habit of rambling myself. Is he heavy on description? That always bores me.
♥ ♥ ILU MY FRIEND.

Date: 2009-07-11 08:48 pm (UTC)3. Constance, I think. Yeah, his deranged brother. XD For someone who has lived several lifetimes, she can be pretty dumb. *nods* I hated his brother.
8. ME EITHER. It was way too descriptive and flowery for me. It was like giving myself a migraine. <_< 9. I won't. :) Yeah, fantasy is my cup of tea too. Is it popular to hate it now? Didn't know that. Hmm… 14. He does. The funny part is that he rambles about the original author's rambles. It's rather amusing. :D He can be, at times, but not too much. Definitely bearable. *tackle-glomps* ILU TOO! <3<3<3
