I eventually had to buy a new computer because it wouldn't hold a charge. I'd have it plugged in, but the computer just wouldn't recognize that it was plugged in. At first, it'd start working again if I fiddled with the cords, but eventually no matter what I did my computer wouldn't recognize it was charging, and it went dead.

My new(ish) computer has started that tonight. Luckily fiddling with the cords words, but this is not a good sign.

Dammit.

Well, hell! Have you considered sprinkling the computer (closed, obvsly) & cords with saltwater & smudging the house with sage & bay? ;-)

Best of luck figuring out the fix!!

That sounds like there may be a problem with the cord or the connection--I'd check those out before replacing the laptop--unless it is really old?

Mine's over 5 years old and yes, the batteries fail by that time. I have to stay plugged in where ever I go, which isn't always easy when you're on the road. :-0

Exposed wires sounds BAD--McKay would have a fit! :_)

Yeah, I'm on the road every other week. I'm struggling to pay the bills as it is, but it would be nice to get back my 3 hours of commuting time on those days. Not to mention, staying at my mother's on those overnighter trips is one long exercise in returning to high school... ;-)

I'm so sorry bb! I feel your pain. Have you tried just buying a new power cord? The problem could be in there... That's the most likely way to fix it. If not... well, I can ask my Mom. She fixes computers for a living. Granted, getting it to her might be an issue, given our relative geographical locations, but she might at least be able to offer some tech support online or something.

From my mom:

have her take the batt out and see if it works. it it easy to order a new batt or cord look on new egg. hp also has a batt test site  that can be down loaded from here:

http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm

another way to test batt is thru control panel see how here:

http://www.ehow.com/video_5362142_test-laptop-battery.html

If she needs a new batt or cord I can help her find a new one cheaper. don’t go to best buy unless you have to have it today. if you can wait it is always cheaper to go on line.

>moms real good at finding deals and stuff like that online for these things. So if you need/want her help, she'll do everything she can to find you the best deal she can.

That should do it then. Hope so.

nihilvanum's words:

my dear
the problem is that
you love him so much
you would allow him
to drag you all the way to hell
if it meant you could
hold his hand
on the way down
