AND NOW TO REAL LIFE NEWS.

There's a very good chance I'm going to lose the internet at some point. My dad was recently laid off, and due to a law our Governor signed, my dad doesn't qualify for unemployment, or something. (Basically, he won't get it. We find out for 100% sure this Monday). We have a couple options - we know some people who own their own businesses, and they might be willing to hire him - but there are no guarantee's. The economy here in Michigan is really bad. If we can't figure something out, the first bill we're going to stop paying is cable/internet.

But we'll see how it goes. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Good news is I'm off the waitlist for one of my classes - this semester I'm taking Fitness Walking. Woo~ exercise!

Damn, I'm really sorry to hear things are so tough for you and your family right now. I've been without cable for over 15 years now, and I can't say I miss it, but I'd have a real struggle without internet. Fortunately, I need it for work, or I'd have to look at cutting it out right now too.

I know how stressful the money situation is--believe me. I wish I could say something to make things better. :-(

I'm keeping my fingers crossed things work out - we've faced tough situations before and came out alright. I'm just feeling so anxious, because I don't know how all the pieces are going to fall. The cable is more for everyone else - the internet is pretty much just for me :P Ah, work, good excuse to keep the internet XD

Thanks ♥ Just being able to get it out helps a little - like a release valve :) It'll make it easier for when I got to sleep, too -- I'll have said out loud (er, typed out) what I'd normally go over and over in my mind just before sleep.

hello, popkin16-san. coincidentally, I check some of my abandon account today and read this entry of yours. I really sorry to hear that.

uhm, I wonder if maybe you can use high speed wireless modem with pre-paid? I'm sorry if it's not appropriate, hell I don't even know if it's a common thing in where you live to use this to connect with the internet. but, from my experience (it's a common thing in here) it is save a lots of money, especially for college student.

anyway, I really hope every things working in the end for you and your family. *hugs*

oh man, i'm so sorry to hear that. :( it just sucks when stuff like that happens. what kind of law is it, anyway, for your dad not qualifying for unemployment when he was laid off? i mean, it's not like i know much about laws (esp. laws in america) but that just sounds silly.

but i really hope your dad'll get hired, or that you'll be able to figure something else out. fingers crossed!

I'm panicking and worried :\ I think the law basically states that a person has to be employed for so long before they qualify. My dad was laid off the job before, and then laid off this one, and since he doesn't meet whatever length of time, he doesn't quality.

No unemployment after being laid off? That's pretty shitty. :-( I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he finds something soon--I know Michigan is having an especially tough economic time right now, worse than the rest of the country. Like sgamadison I've also been without cable a while (only three or four years, but still). I could never consider going without internet for an extended period of time. Sure, I need it for school, but even if I didn't, I would still have to have it. Even if it were just through my Blackberry. :-/

And Fitness Walking-- \o/ I did that a few terms ago and enjoyed it immensely. My old school had a really nice hiking trail system that we used (one of the few things I miss about that damn school). I had a lot of epiphanies that term--exercise does wonders for the brain!

It's extremely shitty :( Thank you! Yeah, Michigan depended so much on the vehicle industry, and then GM and all those started having problems, and things went to hell fast. The internet is mainly for me, the cable for everyone else - but I'm with you - I would never go without the internet if I didn't have to.

Haha, I'm hoping that because it's a walking class, it will be less killer on me than, say, judo or ballet.

I've done martial arts classes before, but not ballet. Eee! Martial arts are a lot of fun, for future reference, and make you feel like you can kick-ass! :-D

I have done the library-internet thing, and while tedious and unfun, it's definitely better than nada.

I'm sorry, honey. That's really jacked that your dad can't get unemployment--I know I didn't qualify for it here, but that's because I quit, not because I was laid off or fired. (Seriously, I thought unemployment was pretty much entirely for people who'd been laid off/fired? Maybe I'm wrong. Also, wrong state.)

I hope your dad finds another job quickly, be it with a family friend or someone else. Being out of work right now is not something I would wish on anyone.

Being without internet will be a pain, but it's doable--when my dad died I cut all unnecessary bills, and that was one of them. (It was probably a good idea in retrospect, but.) I didn't have tv either, not even basic channels, and for a while there I couldn't even watch DVDs--I was lucky my VCR still worked--but it's very doable. And it's temporary--it'll be frustrating, but eventually you or your parents will have enough money to afford it again.

Hey, I'm moving in all of three days--we'll be internet-less together! Or somthing like that. :)

The cable is more for the rest of my family - the internet is for me. I'm saving fanfiction as much as I can so I have something to read while the internet is out, and I won't be cut off completely, but you had it 100% right when you said it's doable but frustrating.

Oh dear, that sounds really horrible.

I don't know a lot about the laws in Michigan state, but it seems pretty harsh that your dad won't qualify for any unemployment. I hope he does find another job.

I am FREAKING OUT, lol. It's really helped me realize how dependent I am on the internet, but I'd much rather be home and reading than out partying.
