I was thinking back on my entrance to fandom today. Specifically, how I was introduced to fanfiction. I'd always sort of daydreamed about certain shows and pairings, even when I was young. But it wasn't until a friend of mine linked me to this Princess Diaries fanfic she read and loved (I know, I know, I didn't bother reading, but it was how I discovered fanfiction), that I realized others daydreamed too, but took it one step further -- they wrote it out and posted.

So, dear friends/acquaintances/lurkers -- how did YOU find fanfiction?

I joined a local club and became friends with cincoflex, who wrote fanfic, back in the pre-internet dinosaur days when zines still ruled the fanfic world. She loaned me some zines so I could read her stories and I got sucked in.

I was in Japan-Pop fandom then. And once I stumbled upon one fanfic (pairing was, as I call it, everyone with everyone). I was shocked. "Wow, they did WHAT?".
And that's how it started.

I don't daydream about shows ever. I never see anything without someone to point out the pairing to me. That's how it started with Harry Potter, with Merlin, with Inception.
I'm proud that I saw it in SGA all by myself. Maybe that's why I'm still here. Usually it takes less than a year to get bored and move on.

oh man, i don't even remember. all i know is it was potter, that one fic that everyone knows, the one written by claire something? clarisse? whatever, idek. and i think it was like draco/hermione with a bit of draco/harry in the middle, and that's how i got interested in slash. but as to how i actually found my way to the fic, jesus. i just don't know. like, i've no memory of it, at all. o.O

... OH MY GOD IT MUST'VE BEEN THE SILENCE WHO MADE ME FIND THAT FIC BECAUSE CLEARLY THEY'VE THEN ERASED THEMSELVES (AND OBVS MAKING ME GO TO FANDOM) FROM MY MEMORY AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH WHAT DO THEY WANT WITH ME WHAT IS THEIR EVIL PLOT WITH FANFIC

I was on a forum (for a book series I now hate; longer story than this one) and a friend there linked me to a story on FF.net. I'd been writing fic for about a year by then and FF.net was a gigantic 'OH MY GOD THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE ME!' revelation. It was wonderful.
