I wonder how and/or when it became standard for the lack of paragraph indents in fanfics? Not that it bothers me, I like it that way. But someone posted a fic on LJ and didn't use indents, but the had them on their website. The fact that they had indents on their website actually threw me off.

I've thought about this myself. It is an odd trademark of fanfic, but like you it doesn't bother me in the least and in fact I like it. Books should remain as is though.

Indenting on both LJ and fanfiction.net (even on most other blogging platforms) is such a pain in the neck, and is extra code, that people learned to stop fighting the system and just format un-indented.

This I know from personal experience. ^^;;

LOL I know, right? I though it was a little odd when I first started reading fanfic, but it's a nice way to read it, and I think all reading material on the web should be like that. Much smoother, imo. I once -- when I still wrote a lot -- accidentally forgot to indent paragraphs on an essay I handed in/ /o\ My teacher looked at me like O_o

I think it's a technical thing hun.

The default mode for web pages is to display paragraphs without an indent unless you actually type it as a row of spaces, which most people don't bother to do.

A lot of very simple, clean journal or blog styles don't add an indent which is probably why we see it so rarely. The writer with her own site probably used a more complex style or one she created herself.

Someone recently sent me an indented document and it just looked odd to me because I'm not accustomed to seeing it anymore.

you love him so much
you would allow him

if it meant you could
hold his hand
