Workplace woes

I promised myself I'd post more often and wouldn't wait until I had things to complain about, but I have something big to complain about, lol. I'm going to talk about fandom after, if that helps.
Here in Michigan, you can return plastic bottles, aluminum cans, or glass bottles for 10 cents. We always get busier after holidays - like Memorial Day - because people party and drink and then want to return their shit. They insert the bottles into the machine, which sorts them by type, and drops them into these huge black bins. The company that provides the black bins keeps shorting us. We've been insanely busy this entire week - the bottle room has been going nonstop. Can you see where this is going?
That's right, we ran out of black bins.
This doesn't mean the bottle room shuts down, of course. No, instead, we have to pull the black bins out, shovel the bottles/cans into SHOPPING CARTS, and then slide the black bin back in so the customers can continue to return bottles. This is the result. What do you do with all those carts Popkin, you may ask. Let me tell you: tomorrow, when we get more black bins delivered, we have to lift those carts up and dump them into the giant bins. There are about 30 carts in that video. Tomorrow is also shaping up to be an absolutely shitty day. And my back already hurts.
In more cheerful fandom news, I have finished Liminal. It was wonderfully done, and I love how the author touches on all characters - Teyla, Elizabeth, and Ronon - though of course the focus is on John and Rodney. I've read that fic only once, long ago. I think I'm going to declare this year, "Reread all the stuff you've only read once" year. I'm still crazy in love with McShep, but I'm starting to crave new, long fic with all the tropes and stuff that I love LOL. Most of the fic that I haven't read yet have a reason for it, though there are a couple I'm not sure why I haven't read yet...
I've stopped making random forays into odd fandoms, but I haven't been reading much fic lately. I'm doing a beta read, and a couple weeks ago I started the latest Murderbot book which I'd really love to finish. Once I'm all caught up there, I think I might reread the Two Body Problem series. It's one of my absolute favorite fics posted in recent years, and though the series doesn't end with everything completely resolved, the author published an earlier version of the fic for McShep_Match, which DOES have a happy ending.
What is everyone reading?

Date: 2018-06-05 03:41 am (UTC)Right now I'm finishing a Sherlock story. I've been on a "friends to lovers" tear in Sherlock, with occasional diversions to Sports Night. I need to start re-reading the Sherlock acting AU as soon as I know I can start writing the McShep version - which should be really, really soon! I just finished the rewrite for Migration, and I'm going through and doing edits, then beta, then a few more tweaks here and there, and then re-publish. ::WHEW:: So it's going to be McShep acting AU, then the first book of Harts Square and get it to

Date: 2018-06-05 04:44 am (UTC)Two Body, however. Part of the reason I love it so much is that it jives SO FUCKING WELL with how I picture John and Rodney. It's like someone reached into my head, pulled out how I interpret the boys, and wrote epic fic about it. All the good, with none of the effort LOL
Man, you are so busy! I really, really need to start writing again...Congrats on getting the rewrite for Migration done! That's a really big thing :D I am suuuuuuuuuuper excited for your McShep acting AU, of course, but I'm also pretty stoked for your Harts Square ♥ Basically: I want ALL THE THINGS.

Date: 2018-06-05 03:48 am (UTC)I loved Liminal, and I'm doing the same thing, lol, rereading some fic I've only read once or stories Ive read so long I don't remember the details much. Have you tied Auburns Gypsies, "Tramps and Thieves" yet? I noticed she has a new chapter on AO3, but I haven't read it yet. I've just finished aKiera Marcos "The Sentinels of Atlantis" which I had never read before, even though I've read her other stories many, many times. I also read "The Cabin Series" from Madison, and am working on "Mile Marker 36 from Bluespirit.

Date: 2018-06-05 04:55 am (UTC)I haven't read Auburn's Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves. I tend to avoid Auburn's works because they are just TOO ANGSTY, I can't handle that much. But someone, whom I can't remember now, said that it wasn't as angsty as her other works. Though I recently had a chat with librarychick_94 and she said she found it angsty. She got through it, but she's only read it the once.
I do have it open in a tab. I'm going to read it. But it's one of those fics that feel 90% plot and 10% my boys, so I've got to be in the mood.
What are your thoughts on the fic?

Date: 2018-06-05 06:35 am (UTC)I’m pretty sure it was me who suggested GT&T’s 😜 in the last conversation you posted about what people are reading. I am still a little surprised that so many people thought it so angsty. I remember some angsty and stressful situations, but they seemed to resolve quickly. Maybe it’s because I have read it more than once. Maybe I should take another look. But you know, I absolutely adore respoftw ‘s writing and she is the most angst-driven writer to me. Grow Old Without Me just about killed me.

Date: 2018-06-08 08:30 pm (UTC)It probably was you who suggested GT&T LOL But it makes me feel better that you recommend it, that it didn't seem to angsty to you. I trust your opinion very much and I feel like we have similar tastes. I think all the really angsty stuff happened in the past - John & Rodney basically being snaked against their will. They might still deal with the fallout of that, but the act itself is resolved. I love respoftw's work, and she tags for her really bad stuff, so I can easily avoid them. Though Grow Old Without Me had me crying...

Date: 2018-06-05 06:53 am (UTC)Oh and melagan said you're back to more your usual schedule, so do you want to try a hangouts this weekend? ^_^
You already know what I've been reading :D Last night I started Fool's Gold finally, since I didn't have any more Murderbot to read, and I'm enjoying it. But I keep thinking I should get a Kindle or something, reading from a computer screen for along time wears my eyes out. Not that I let it stop me or anything though :D
I'm also trying to slowly get back to writing, and I need to start my SGARB art soon. I have an idea, but now sure how I want to proceed...
And you know you can always vent here, we're just happy to hear from you ^_^

Date: 2018-06-08 09:10 pm (UTC)Fool's Gold is sooo good, and I wanted to protect Jake from everything ever. You should totally get a kindle, they're super handy ;) And you could maybe get a Kindle Paperwhite, which supposedly looks like an actual book.
Good luck with the SGARB art, bb! I'm confident whatever you come up with is going to be AWESOME.

Date: 2018-06-05 11:22 am (UTC)I'm reading some older McShep that I have on my kindle. Mostly short, fluffy stuff. Because I'm working on a McShep story I'm not reading a lot of it right now. (I'll be so happy when this story is done, it's taking forever, and I have doubts it will be as good as I want it to be, but my brain won't let it go.)
I raced through Murderbot 1 & 2 when they came out. Waiting for 3. I have a hankering to read the Wolves of the Apocalypse again.
Oh, and I'm reading the Dresden Files series. *coff* I'm bad about starting pro-fic and then stopping mid-story to go read McShep, but damn, Dresden Files and SGA would make a hell of a fusion.

Date: 2018-06-08 09:14 pm (UTC)I love fluffy stuff <3 I know how it is when a story picks at you that you're helpless to not write it.
I've started Murderbot 2, but I haven't finished. I stopped to beta read that book. Oh man, Wolves of the Apocalypse. I might have to reread that now, too ;) Which could be a good thing. It might reignite my love for werewolf fic and inspire me to actually, you know, WORK ON MINE. *shakes head at self*
How do you feel about the Dresden Files? I actually have read fic in that fandom for a pairing based on the books. You should totally write a crossover fic between Dresden and SGA ;)

Date: 2018-06-05 06:10 pm (UTC)I’m reading a couple of things at the moment.
Real book wise, I’m reading How to Survive a Plague: The Story of How Activists and Scientists Tamed AIDS which is a heartbreaking but completely fascinating read. I don’t often read non fiction but (whispers) this started as research for a McShep fic.....I think I’ve kind of shelved the fic idea but the book is very worth a read.
Fic wise, I’ve been subscribed to and patiently waiting for a fic by one of my favourite authors to be finished for, like, years now and it got completed a few weeks ago so I’m reading that. It’s The Golden Age That Never Was by not_poignant. It’s in the Rise of the Guardians fandom and I’m really enjoying it BUT it’s super long and that means my brain keep starting to miss McShep...
Link to fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/4782056
Having saw that LitGal just started posting a new instalment to the Not In Kansas series again, I’m rereading that for the umpteenth time.
I’ve also just read the first 3 parts of this series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/998286) which is GEN but so so good. The writer is posting the fourt part just now as well!
Love and hugs, Ash xx

Date: 2018-06-08 09:17 pm (UTC)I've always been interested in Rise of the Guardians fic - loved the movie - but I just wasn't really feeling Jack Frost and Pitch Black, which seems to be the pairing of choice for long, plotty fic. That's an AU though, maybe I should give it a try...if you recommend it, it's sure to be good (though probably angsty, lol).
I read up to a certain point with LitGal's series and then it kind of...gave me the skeevies and I quit, lol. But I love that new, long McShep fic is still being posted!
Oh man, thank you for that link! I haven't explored good gen fic as much as I should have. I think I know what I'll be reading at work tomorrow *grins*

Date: 2018-06-14 11:36 pm (UTC)If you're looking for good gen, respoftw rec'd this series and it's soooo good. Lots of John & Rodney friendship~
