When you get this, please post 10 facts about yourself and then pass it along to 10 followers:

I was tagged by [personal profile] shaddyr, who I think tagged everyone that *I* would have tagged too. So: if you want to do this, I choose you!

1. I don't like tea. I don't like it cold or warm, I don't even like those Brisk half & half where it's supposed to be half tea half lemonade or whatever. If it tastes like tea, I don't want it, lol.
2. I don't like coffee. Or, well, I do, but I have to put so much sugar and creamer in it you can barely taste the coffee lol.
3. I've been in fandom since 2001 (my old FF.Net account was set up that year), when I was 12 years old. I totally lied about my age to get into 18+ groups, though I think I didn't try to get into those until I was 16 or so. Until that point, I was content with whatever was on FF.Net.
4. I have to have something to drink when I eat. This is a really weird quirk of mine that I can't explain. I think maybe I just don't like my mouth feeling sticky after eating.
5. I grew up on horror movies. I remember watching Stephen King's IT when I was seven, lol. And now I deliberately listen to scary podcasts and read scary things late at night, when I'm the only one up.
6. I am a first generation sci-fi fan. Nobody else in my family likes sci-fi. None of the classics, the new stuff. I think the only exception might be the Aliens franchise, and only because it's scary.
7. Fandom has saved my life. I  say fandom in general terms, but I mean fic and the friends I made. I moved around A LOT growing up, and the one constant I had was fandom. I could always turn the computer on and read fic about my favs, or interact with other people who love what I do. In more recent years, you guys have helped me out financially, and I honestly have no idea where I'd be without your guy's generosity.
8. I have a stuffed animal from when I was two, and I am not ashamed to say I still sleep with it. She's been another constant in a life of change.
9. I'm making my first fanvid. I have mentioned this before, but I'm seriously running out of facts about myself. I'm boring, lol.
10. I'm currently watching a show, Critical Role, where a bunch of voice actors play D&D. It started as a private game before going online, so you're dropped in the middle, but the plot is easy to follow. The downside: the average length of episodes is like, 3 hours. But they play a diverse cast - there's two bisexual characters in the main cast, two lesbian secondary characters who make frequent appearances, and even an agender character. Also there's Viktor.

I am a first generation sci-fi fan.

I never thought of it in those terms but I am too! And I've done my best to pass that on to my kids. :)

Is fine about the tea and coffee. More for me.

Horror movies. *shudder* Nope, nope, nope.

I am a first generation sci-fi fan. Nobody else in my family likes sci-fi. None of the classics, the new stuff.

What an interesting way to think about it. I guess that's true of me as well, and my older brother. We were SciFi fans. My mom just thought it was stupid.

I can proudly say that I have raised 3 geeks in fandom. My eldest child's first convention experience was at 2 months old.

Fandom has saved my life.

I grok that, man.

I’m very impressed by you having a go at vidding! I have no idea how to make vids at all. Good luck with it!

Lots of people doing this and I feel tagged but haven't quite finished my post yet. I love learning bits and pieces about online friends and these memes are perfect for that! I think I'll give Critical Role a miss because I have too much else queued up for watching but it sounds interesting.

I used to be like you re: #2, but lately I drink really dark coffee with nothing at all added. If it's not high quality stuff, I can't drink it. Some coffee is seriously nasty, but the good stuff is definitely worth it if you ever get a taste for it.

I'm 37 (I said 38, orz I can't keep my own age straight) and I sleep with a giant Rilakkuma bear, too. It's very comforting to hold onto something, plus I get shoulder pain if I don't. Anyone who thinks it's weird can deal with it.

I get thirsty when I eat, too. A meal feels empty without drinks.

I got into fandom when AOL was a thing, and I'd sneak online late at night after my parents went to bed, lol.

Yeah, it depends on the brew. I'm not at coffee-snob levels yet (but Persona 5 is to blame for pushing me toward it), but drinking something like Dunkin Donuts will NOT taste the same as some of the nicer ones. I like Cafe Verona (Starbucks) because it's a darker roast, and supposedly has a hint of chocolate. I wouldn't say you can tell that it does, but... compared to other coffees it's far closer to that. And weirdly enough, I like the dark roasts more than the lighter ones, maybe because the flavor is stronger. If bitterness bothers you, try a cold brew. It's made without heating the water, and takes longer to brew, so it helps a lot with that. I used to get really bothered by coffees that smell a certain way but don't taste it, but I guess I got used to not putting sugar in it after a while and can taste the difference between say, pecan or caramel macchiato flavored coffee (and these are flavored brews, not with a shot of some chemical in them).

Uh... that was a lot. XD I just am lucky we have a lot up at my office I can try. Seriously, don't get the nasty gas-station brew stuff. I don't like columbian at all.

As for your stuffed animal, I am sure there are some tutorials around, but you could hand wash her and wring her out, then put her near a fan or vent and keep turning her until she dries?

And yeah, it's been since uh... hmm... 1996 when I started exploring fandom? :D;;; It really has come a long way, but it's not THAT different I guess. What I notice the most is that everyone's moved to sites like FB and Tumblr, which makes me super sad because I can't engage people the same there, and even though on journals you can see stuff being posted that you might not care about, the 'like' culture definitely has created a hive mentality where interacting is just 'did you like my post?' instead of discussion and understanding that not everyone is going to have a conversation with you all the time.

Oh and fan sites. Those are waaayyy less prevalent. I miss webrings, mailing lists, chat rooms, and forums. Though discord has been a life saver for chats. *_*

People will tell you cons have changed, and I suppose they have, but you can always still geek out in the same way in person no matter how the venue or programming differs. I'm trying to motivate myself to make more content to post online, whether here or on Amino.

Then there's that my whole family understands what fandom is now, even if they don't quite get everything about it. I have slowly exposed them to the idea of things like fic or cosplay and don't have to go into too much depth now when they know it's such a common thing... which is a relief! XD

nihilvanum's words:

my dear
the problem is that
you love him so much
you would allow him
to drag you all the way to hell
if it meant you could
hold his hand
on the way down
