2016: A Review

I think this is my first time actually posting on DW and not just importing all my journal entries. Hopefully crossposting works! My DW needs so much work - I need to change out my icons and work on my layout (the text is so tiny, whyyy).

My New Year's Resolution is two-fold, the first of which - <i>be more positive</i> - is new. It's going to be a difficult one, since my family is always running into financial woes. The second is the same as last year: write more than the previous year. I signed up for mini_wrimo in November and it really helped keep me writing. I'm thinking of making a sticky-post to keep track of my daily word count - I'll comment each day with how much I wrote. It won't always be more than 0, but hopefully I won't go days without writing.

One positive of 2016 is my success at writing more. In 2015 I wrote 6,721 words total for the year. In 2016 I wrote 45,397. I'm really proud of myself for that, even if I know some people who could write that in one story alone, lol. Hopefully I'll fill my goal of writing even more than 45k! I have tons of ideas, it's just the hard part: actually writing them.

+ Making A Choice, 6679 words. Written for Tarlan and part of the romancingmcshep .
John knows something has to change to make Weres more accepted on Atlantis. He has a feeling there are more than just a few who share his secret.

+ Division 52, 18644 words. Written as part of the Conspiracy Challenge and a Men in Black crossover.
John never expected aliens.

+ Refresh My Memory, 1906 words. Co-written with darkmoore.
John, Rodney and the day after a drunken night of sex...

+ Gifts Worth Giving, 1138 words. Written for selenic76.
Wooing, Rodney McKay style.

+ Riding A Desk, 2170 words. Pure porn.
This was Rodney's favorite kind of meeting.

+ Take Me To The Wild, 6214 words. Written for fandom_stocking and hasn't been revealed yet. I'll make a post when it's finally open for reading.

Right out the gate of 2017, I have at least 2 fics to be written and Romancing McShep to start thinking about. Hopefully it's a sign of how the year will go :)

Yay for writing more this year than last year! AND HI. It took me a while to get used to Dreamwidth when I crossed over too, but once I got everything looking how I wanted, I felt a lot more comfortable.

I was honestly surprised how much more I wrote this year than last. Very proud, too :D

My crossposting didn't work. Possibly because I realized my cut messed up, so I immediately edited the journal post to try and fix it (which also didn't work, so I deleted the cut completely).

I really like the idea of DW and I wish everyone would move here. But I go where my friends are *sigh* You prefer DW, then?

Did you get the crosspost to work? Once you've got it set up and working, it rarely fails.

I do prefer DW, now. It feels safer to me, and everyone's always been really friendly on the support boards and the comms that help you customize your journal layout. LJ, as a platform, has only been a source of frustration for the past six years or so, with them constantly changing things and slow to react to problems.

I would have switched entirely to DW back then, but there were still people on LJ that I wanted to keep in touch with, so I was crossposting, but at that point, I did the majority of my reading and commenting on DW and considered it my home base.

I did get the crossposting to work! And I've fixed it so the text on my DW is larger, so I'm not squinting to see what's being said lol.

I can see where DW would feel safer. This place was made by fans, for fans, wasn't it? As a response to strike-through, or something. I was getting a bit frustrated with customizing my DW layout earlier, so I'm just going to edit this one. I'm working on a better header.

That's exactly why I haven't moved to DW exclusively. I'm hoping that this latest news will be a push to get more people moved over here.

Yeah, DW was started by a fan in response to one of LJ's many fuckups. I resisted at first because I hate change, so by the time I finally came over here, the majority of my friends were already here. And now so much time has gone by that most of the old LJ holdouts aren't even using LJ any more.

Yeah, the majority of fandom has moved to tumblr. There are just a few people - and communities - left on LJ that I stay for.

I'm not a big fan of change, myself.
