Day 05 - A fic you weren't sure you'd like but ended up loving

Summary: John has a useful gift for compartmentalization: he discards the irrelevant and moves on. Then Rodney makes an ill-considered move on a mission, John steps up to take responsibility for making reparations to the locals, and things take a turn for the complicated as Rodney, an alien society, and an armada of ships make standard operating procedure completely impossible.

Reasons: If you have not read this fic but are even remotely familiar with the SGA fandom read this fic now. I just can't put into words how amazing it is. It's my #1 favorite fics ever, regardless of fandom. I wasn't sure I'd like it because of a scene where a character is spanked as punishment (which I hurried through) as well as the UST, but I've never regretted reading. shaenie introduces a great OC character and Lorne gets a large, inclusive role in the fic. This means that Teyla and Ronon take a more background role, but they're still felt in the fic and have some truly wonderful scenes. This isn't one of those fics that have plots that have been done many times (something difficult to avoid in a fandom as large as SGA, and that wasn't a put down to those fics -- on the contrary, I love them), but a fic with two original concepts and an amazingly well-written execution.
