Life blindsides you
Apr. 25th, 2014 03:42 pmI actually received the check stubs I needed for Obamacare and food stamps :O Now we're hurrying up and finishing everything, because the next paycheck means we'll have to wait forever for my next check stub, since they're always super late.
We woke up today to mail from my grandmother. This completely baffled all of us, since my dad's mother is.... well, lets just say dad is not her favorite kid by a long shot. "Strained relationship" was practically created for us. We rarely hear from her, and when we attempted to move down to Virginia one year, she was a complete beast to us. Grandmother REALLY doesn't like my mother. Many years ago, when my mother gave birth to Angie (my stillborn sister), my grandmother told my mom perhaps it was for the best, since her and my dad won't be together for long. My mother was still in the hospital at the time. (That was 25 years ago and they still are).
So waking up today to a $40 grocery card was....really weird. We sat there for a half hour speculating on why she sent it. She signed the card "mom", and though I knew the card was addressed to "Jeff and Family", it didn't even enter my mind that it was from her. But hey! That's less stress on me. We now have $95 for groceries! Sweet~ I thought perhaps it was a sort of guilty present, since she forgot dad's birthday. But then why address it to "Jeff & Family"? My grandmother is super religious; I half-expect it was sent with religious motivations. (And God said "be nice to your family" or something).
A couple weeks ago, I was working on the line during the lunch rush. After the crowd thinned, this lady whom we had already served came up and handed me an Independent Bank card. She said something like, "You have great customer service skills, and we're very interested in that. When you call, tell them you were referred by me. My name's on the card." I still haven't called, because I have no idea what position I'm applying for, or...anything, really. But I really should. Working at a bank is better than working at Subway, yeah? I meant to call today, but things have been a bit crazy.
I'll call Monday and hope too much time hasn't passed. Can't hurt to try.
