I have fallen down the rabbit hole of Game of Thrones fic. I fully expect to climb back out of said hole - sometimes I take brief detours into other fandoms, but I always end up missing John & Rodney fiercely. I've already started to miss them, lol.

So my [community profile] mcsheppers posts will once again be posted every day. Sorry for the slack, guys~

Still haven't seen a single episode of GofT. One of these days, maybe.

Meanwhile, DGW and I were talking on Twitter about a gym AU. I need to finish my book ASAP so I can start writing fanfic again!! :)

I find myself curious, what's your poison as far as GoT?

I can understand your feelings about John and Rodney, and though my walk-abouts are probably longer I still always find my way back too. :D (It's a curious feeling, missing fictional character but it does seem to happen regardless. :))

Rabbit holes can be good breaks! I've been interspersing my F/K reading with fic from other fandoms, because fandom burnout is a thing. Rabbit holes can be healthy things!

I dove down the Hannibal rabbit hole for a bit, and while there's some good stuff there it's not a staying fandom for me (right now).

Maybe a bit of a break is just what you need. Enjoy the vacation. snerk! Just don't EVER abandon us completely...I haven't been in The Fandom long, but there are people who aren't around anymore, or just not very often, and I MISS them.

It is a bit odd for me, I have other fandoms I enjoy and a couple of ships, but NONE have ever given me the joy and satisfaction of John and Rodney. I hope you enjoy GofT. I wouldn't mind seeing a few recc's on anything you find worthy. 💙

Maybe there's a McShep GoT AU out there somewhere! I imagine John would be from the Eyrie but he was fostered in the North and, like Antarctica, he likes it there. Rodney's from Highgarden but he moved to King's Landing ASAP because he couldn't deal with being surrounded by so many botanists. He has an extremely fancy maester's chain.

Rabbit holes for everyone! :D

LOL, I binge-watched the whole series as a carrot to get through my medieval literature paper. Read a (often dry, boring) chapter of John Mandeville, watch a Hannibal episode. :) It's really not for everyone, though--it's dark, it's very twisted, it's gory. Of all the Bryan Fuller shows, I think I'd need to be in a really specific mood to rewatch Hannibal. And by the end it's kind of a hot mess, but at least it's a hot queer mess with two queer couples? So there's that.

The fic...well, the fic skews towards "gleeful serial killer husbands" rather than "actual moral quandries complicated by love" so I get not wanting to dive in. There's some lovely fic but only if you go with the murderhusbands aesthetic; the second type (my preference) is a lot harder to come by.

Braime! YASS! That is the flagship of my het ships and the one I can't ever seem to get enough of. I am also currently on a Jaime x Brienne cruise after the final season (which gutted me). They are so great for epic canon stories and for funny AUs all without losing that special magic that is their chemistry and tension.

I've gotten my feet wet with Gendrya too, but as you say they are very often a side pairing, and frankly I feel like it is super hard to get Arya just right (at least for me). Also, I find that unlike Jaime and Brienne, the dynamic between Gendry and Arya loses something without the canon context making AUs, not as fun. *shrug* I'm probably going to keep trying because I'm holding out for someone to write an epic Arya and Gendry explore the world story. ;D

I've also fallen into Jonsa and Jorleesi as well as some minor and rare pairings just for fun. But as with John and Rodney, I tend to start to miss Jaime and Brienne and end up gravitating back to them pretty quickly. :D

Awww, thank you!

As for the gym AU, I go to a gym where there are a lot of "Happy Valley Housewives". They put on full makeup and wear designer gym wear, and then stand around on the equipment bitching about their husbands, personal chefs, step-kids, etc. I can just see Rodney going to this gym only because John sold him a "platinum" membership and flirted with him a little. :)

I'll get there!!! :)

It seems to work okay depending on the show for me! :D

I think a lot of the merry serial killer fics tend to have them focus on bad guys, but it really varies. I've never been interested enough to dive into that end of the fandom willy-nilly. And yeah, real life, especially lately, is dark enough without adding to it. :D

Lol, I don't see why an OT3 couldn't count. ;)

I really have to agree with you about the Braime AUs, it's such a departure for me too but I do love the AUs almost more than the canon-setting stories with them. My absolute favorite is when it's a Modern Westeros setting (or Regency Westeros, or Victorian Westeros) basically an AU that brings Westeros out of the pseudo Middle Ages. *squees over the worldbuilding*

I think the finale pissed a LOT of people off, I'd say myself included but truthfully I was emotionally bankrupt by "The Bells" and had no more fucks to give the finale. *grumbles bitterly about the scattered Stark pack anyway*

I don't think Arya's supposed to be ugly though, she's at an awkward age and has a sister with whom she is contentious hence the mean name. But I believe she was supposed to grow into her looks, even if she doesn't become conventionally pretty like her sister (unlike Brienne). That being said I love the thought of the adorable and slight girl being the thing that goes bump in the night *waggles eyebrows* getting to be with a boy that thinks that's super hot. It is a good trope though. :D

Oh yes, missing fictional characters is a strange and wonderful thing and it's one of the best things about fanfiction that it fills that longing. :)

nihilvanum's words:

my dear
the problem is that
you love him so much
you would allow him
to drag you all the way to hell
if it meant you could
hold his hand
on the way down
