1. One Piece
Haha, I could talk about this FOREVER. Okay, so. This series is hands down, my favorite ever. Some people aren't willing to give it a try, or have tried it and couldn't stick with it because of the odd art style Oda-sensei has, but they're the ones missing out. One Piece has made me laugh until my ribs and stomach hurt. It has made me cry so damn hard until my eyes got red and my skin all blotchy. The characters are so amazing, and full of innuendos and gorgeous men to slash. (Zoro/Sanji FTW, riiiight? *Glareglare*) I repeatedly attempt to force friends (apologies to
sapphirestar_ and
foxarashi ) to get into it. It's a wonder I haven't been strangled. I urge you all to check out this short post about the awesome sauce that is OP (it only looks long because of comments).
2. Fanfiction
I've been reading fanfiction since 2001, give or take a year. I've been writing it only since 2004, since I have self-esteem issues. It's a large part of my life, of who I am. I've met some of the most wonderful people in the world -- which is all of my flist, I love you all -- because of it. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Fanfiction isn't just people infringing on copyrights like some authors think, it's about showing love and appreciation for a particular series. It's a great way to express those warm feelings, and even if some of the fanfiction out there could be better written by a first grader, it's still written by someone with a love of what they're writing about (in most cases).
3. Books
Without books, there would be very little fanfiction for me. When I was younger, I hated reading. I had to take a special class to learn, but once I got started I couldn't stop. I read the fourth Harry Potter book in a day. I finished the One Piece series in a week. I read in the car, in class (sshh!), while I'm on the computer (ebooks yay), and when I should be doing homework. It's a way to get away from myself for a few hours and enjoy reading about someone else. I always say very seriously (but nobody ever believes me), that instead of flowers on Valentines Day I want a book. I'll know I've found the right person when they actually buy me a book, darn it!
4. Watanuki
Watanuki is the main character of CLAMP's xxxHolic. He's had a difficult, tragic life, and he works in a shop that grants wishes, ran by a mysterious, alcohol-loving woman named Yuuko (some might recognize her from Tsubasa, which crosses over with 'Holic). Watanuki was socially isolated until Doumeki and Himawari start hanging around. Watanuki has an ambiguous relationship with Doumeki -- there are little moments...though they might not seem like much, if you were to read xxxHolic the scenes are almost balatantly shippy. Okay, so that last one was from a doujinshi. *Is not sorry* I ship them so hard, lol. But anyway, he's so sweet and kind to everybody, I want to hug him and take him home (though I doubt Doumeki would let me). He puts others before himself, willing to go so far as to die so others can be happy. If CLAMP doesn't give him a happy ending, I will angst until next year.
5. YamaGoku
Ahh, 8059. Yamamoto/Gokudera is my Katekyo Hitman Reborn OTP. They have such an interesting relationship...Gokudera is angered by Yamamoto very easily, constantly threatening to blow the other boy up with dynamite. Yamamoto is an easygoing guy, and seems to think that all the mafia business that Tsuna and the others are often dragged into is just a game. The two have been known to show concern for each other -- Yamamoto being much more willing to do this over Gokudera -- so there is some feeling of...something between them. I think they fit really well together as a couple. Gokudera is more serious and grumpy, where Yamamoto is light and happy. It's been a while since I've read KHR, so I have very little pictures to share (just fanart and doujinshi pieces).
There we go! I'm sure most of this was no surprise.

Date: 2009-02-21 02:17 pm (UTC)butbutbutbut I WILL READ AND WATCH ONE PIECE I WILL I SWEAR. i just don't know when, yet. xD BUT IF I DON'T, I GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO BUG ME ABOUT IT FOREVER. xDD because dude, i cannot resist an otp as obvious as zorosanji, i cannot. 8D
and fanfic and books, yes, i feel the same way ♥ no, seriously, what are you gonna do with flowers? they look pretty and smell reasonably good but then they, oh, wilt up and die. now books, on the other hand, mmh. (don't you just love the smell of both new and old books? the sound of crisp leaves turning? gaahhh. *spazzes*)
and watanuki, what are you talking about, of course that last picture is from the actual manga. >> YAMAGOKUUUUUU ALKJFLDJFLD. ngggh, that is some gorgeous fanart alkfjl;lfjdls. *flails*
i shall now, um, go, and decidedly not have a nosebleed. really. *shifty*
butbutbut GIMME FIVE THINGS? :D i already have five things from someone else, but MEMES I CANNOT RESIST so gimme gimme gimme. what's five when you can have ten, after all. xDDD

Date: 2009-02-21 09:57 pm (UTC)YOU HAVE TO, OMG. IT'S JUST. IT'S SO GOOD. And the animators purposely write in Zoro/Sanji moments. I feel bad for repeatedly babbling about it to you, but I'd love it so much if you joined the fandom. Fangirling with you is always so much fun, and OP is fun and crack-y. Permission to bug you, you say XDDD The OTP is really obvious, oh yes. Perhaps if I ever get my ZoSan manifesto finished, you can see.
♥ Another girl who thinks the same! That's my reasoning too -- flowers die, but books are forever. Whose idea was it to give flowers anyway? If it's supposed to represent the love you have for someone, why buy something that wilts and dies? (DOOD. Whenever I buy a new book, I totally smell it. They should make a cologne of it..."the sound of crisp leaves turning"? YOU HAVE AN AWESOME WAY WITH WORDS. SO POETIC.)
Right >_> Silly me, thinking it was a doujin. You'd think I'd know the difference. They make out all the time in 'Holic. :) ISN'T IT? PEOPLE'S TALENT AT DRAWING AMAZES ME.*wiggles in seat* YamaGoku is such a worthy pairing for fanarts, too.
OH HO HO. MY PLAN HAS WORKED. *passes out tissues*
Ten? O.o Well, if that's what you want! ^____^ :
1. Doumeki/Watanuki
2. Supernatural
3. Torchwood
4. Kingdom Hearts

Date: 2009-02-21 11:12 pm (UTC)My aunt always asks me what I want for my birthday, and my answer is always "a dictionary". There are many, many different kinds of dictionaries for learners of English, and they all manage to make me drool, BUT they're for the most part, obscenely expensive. I've managed to get three out of her, though I've had to pay half of the most expensive one (I call it "the monster" because it's a professional English/Spanish translation dictionary and it's simply huge). Yay for us bookworms! XD
Gimme five? :3
no subject
Date: 2009-02-22 09:00 am (UTC)English dictionaries are expensive where you live? I suppose that does make sense. Dictionaries are a dime a dozen here, so I was a bit surprised. Three dictionaries, you really are dedicated. I think you said once that you love the English language? Or perhaps that was someone else...(Haha, "The monster" book of English. I like the way that sounds!) Bookworms pwn all!
Right! They'll probably be obvious.
1. Doumeki/Watanuki
2. One Piece
3. CLAMP
4. Pets
5. English (seriously, lol. We've talked about how you're learning it, and I find it interesting)
(using my pr0n icon just for the heck of it. XD)
Date: 2009-02-22 09:17 am (UTC)Yeah, they are rather expensive... and I have ten of them! My ever-faithful Longman monolingual English Dictionary, the Oxford Collocations, the Longman Activator, The Monster, my Longman Pronunciation dictionary, Longman Grammar, a pocket Thesaurus, a pocket American English dictionary (both of these useful during those tests they allow us to take dictionaries to), a rather outdated Computer User's Dictionary and "An A to Z of British Life", which is a very fun dictionary with a lot of information I can't get anywhere else (except perhaps for Wikipedia, but then again, I'm not always on my computer).
It took years to gather this many... and I use all of them!! *grin*
Uhm, I'm supposed to answer this meme in my journal, right? off I go!
(btw, I like your new layout)
Re: (using my pr0n icon just for the heck of it. XD)
Date: 2009-02-22 09:26 am (UTC)Ahh, yeah. lol That makes it difficult to ship a pairing. It's a cracktastic series though, if you ever have some time on your hands, you might want to check it out. Though, when I think of you, I think, "She's really smart." So for some reason I tell myself that you won't enjoy KHR because of its rather stupid moments.
Good lord! I've never heard of anybody having so many dictionaries before in my life. XDD You're really dedicated -- it's awe inspiring. I feel like I should be buying Japanese dictionaries everywhere, since I'm enjoying learning that language. Good for you, using them all~ I'm sure they've come in handy. Will you someday visit the U.S.? Just wondering. You write English so well, I imagine you speak it pretty well too.
Right! I can't wait to see your answers ^_____^
It's from
<--- I never get tired of this one... *__*
Date: 2009-02-22 09:40 am (UTC)I can see that. *___* *ogles the porny ZoSan icon*
Thanks for the compliment, but I can enjoy stupid stories, too... it depends. Sometimes I'm in the mood for silly. After all, I love Gokusen and Nodame Cantabile, and although both series have a plot (somewhere), their rather silly moments are what drew me in... (BTW, both a manga rec. The artwork is unusual, and the stories strange, but they're a great laugh...)
I actually don't have that very many. I should have seven more to complete my basic kit, according to my teachers. I still need an idioms dictionary, a phrasal verbs dictionary, an "English Language and Culture", a full-length Thesaurus, and a couple more that are basically other versions of the one I have already, but sometimes an entry isn't very clear in the one you have and you need another perspective... plus my faithful monolingual dictionary is really beaten up and needs a replacement. He deserves some quiet time in the shelf, and I use him daily, the poor dear.
Uhm, not sure. Travelling abroad is rather expensive, and if I did, I would probably be heading to England for an exchange... my university has some connections with universities in London, sooo...
But my written English is much, much better than my spoken one. My pronunciation is not all that great (I have trouble with a couple of vowels and some consonants) and I tend to stress the wrong words. You see, in Spanish we have a fixed stress for every word, so a language with flexible stress is challenging for us...
I'm working on them...

Date: 2009-02-22 11:18 am (UTC)butbutbut YES, SO FLUFFY IT ROTS YOUR TEETH. AND TRULY, BRIGHT AND LOVING, ALL THEY DO IS SAY HOW MUCH THEY LOVE EACH OTHER AND THEN SMILE GOOFILY FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. *pretends not to know anything about any shifty business*
YEAH I REALLY DO. and ahahah, really, they do? xD; but don't feel bad! i like it, and it gives me even more incentive to watch/read op. :D and yeah, permission to bug me! ... although you won't need it, because I TOTALLY WILL GET INTO THE FANDOM. I WILL. xD and good luck with the manifesto! how's it coming along? well, i hope. :)
♥ yes! i mean, well, i like flowers, too, but that's just it - they die. that doesn't exactly say anything good about the relationship, now, does it?
why can't they just give both, damn it, haha.(OMG YAY. they should. it's just, ngggh, it's such a good smell, i could keep smelling them forever - in fact, sometimes, when i'm in the middle of reading a book, i just, i just pause and take a moment to smell it. just because. AND AND ALJ;FLKJDL THANK YOU ♥ HEE.)yes, yes, exactly. these things happen all the time in the manga. on every page, even! ... if only. >> INORITE. truly wiggly-in-your-seat inducing pictures, omg. i wish i could draw like that, omg.
WHATEVER WOULD I NEED TISSUES FOR I HAVE NO IDEA. *grabs them*
YEEES, THANK YOUUU~ i'll answer them as soon as i can, yay! :D

Date: 2009-02-23 06:39 am (UTC)YES! IT'S ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU WANT TO SWEAR OFF SWEETS FOREVER, BECAUSE YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR DAILY LIMIT OF SWEET FROM THEM. *is grinning like an
innocentidiot**NODNOD* Yep, they do. It's like they know about the fangirls...lol. Now that you've said that, I won't stop, you know. I'M LIKE A TIDAL WAVE, ALL FLOWY AND HEADING STRAIGHT FOR YOU. VROOOM (um, that's a car noise. Crap.) The manifesto is alright. I've got all the information I'm going to use, and I'm working on screencaps or manga pages, but as;kjfas I'm having such a problem with organization. ;_;
Flowers are nice, they're pretty and smell good. LOL, no it really doesn't. Or maybe we're just V-Day snobs?
Both would be EPIC.(Right! I bet it'd sell well amongst readers and librarians. It's such an awesome smell, and very unique. Have you ever gotten odd looks for smelling books in public? YOU ARE SOAWESOMEWELCOME!)Exactly. Because CLAMP isn't afraid of teh ghei, and are making no effort to stifle it in xxxHolic. There's RST (resovled sexual tension) on every page, lol! Me tooo! How good are you at drawing, anyway?
CERTAINLY NOT FOR THE BLOOD COMING OUT OF YOUR NOSE. YOUR SHIRT IS STAINED. =p
I WILL BE WAITING FOR YOUUU! XD
no subject
Date: 2009-02-23 04:08 pm (UTC)YES, EXACTLY. WELL OKAY NO, I COULD NEVER SWEAR OFF SWEETS, BUT STILL. THEY'RE SO SWEET THAT WERE I LESS USED TO IT, I'D PROBABLY BE DEAD BY THE RADIANT SMILES RIGHT NOW. *subtly
which is to say everyone noticeshides picture of them sweet sweet couples fighting*AHAHAHA, THAT'S BRILLIANT. i love how producer's/writer's/etc usually know about the fandoms, the fangirls. (kripke, god of spn, knows about us, and i seriously think it's why he has all these slight innuendos in spn, omg.) O MAI. FLOWY TIDAL WAVES! YAY! *awaits you with open arms and makes vroomy noises* hee, i'm glad it's coming along fine! butbutbut i hear you about the organization, i suck at that. D: if you need any help and you think i can help you (although i'm not in the fandom yet), just say the word! :)
ahaha, could be! but then again, nice flowers can easily cost more than a book, so, hey, if someone wants to waste their money on something that's gonna die, well, not my problem, lolol. xD
IT SO WOULD!(i'm sure it would. i'd certainly buy it! and i don't know, probably? i'm pretty sure i have, but i usually concentrate on smelling the books and so i rarely notice other people doing so. 8DDD though there was this time on the train, i was on my way home and i'd gotten myself a book, and i was all, mmmmmh, the smeeell, mmmh, and this old lady looked at me all indulgently, like she was thinking, "YOUTHS THESE DAYS" XDD and you, have you gotten any odd looks? :D EEP. PRETEND I'M THERE TO PHYSICALLY GLOMP YOU. *internetz!glomp*)yeah! didn't they even say it once, in some interview? or indirectly said it? or, well, hinted at the ghei, but still. :D AHAHHA RST THAT'S GREAT. YES! on every page! and um. i don't know, i suck at evaluating myself. but i lovelovelove drawing hands, and backs, omg. ♥ not that i've actually drawn (or painted) in a while now, but still. how about you, do you draw?
TRULY, YES. I DO NOT GET NOSEBLEEDS. WHY WOULD I GET NOSEBLEEDS? THERE IS NOTHING HERE THAT WOULD MAKE ME HAVE 'EM.
YAAY~ i'll be as fast as possible! ... which ain't that fast. xD;
Re: <--- I never get tired of this one... *__*
Date: 2009-02-23 08:40 pm (UTC)Well, you might like KHR. I started it, thought it was stupid, and went back to it months later and really loved it. I've heard of both those series, though I don't like the Gokusen manga because of the drawing style. I'll have to check out Nodame Cantabile, though.
Still, that's quite a few dictionaries you have. I have only one at home...but as long as you use them, then it doesn't really matter how many you have. Do you use them often when you're online?
Ahh, I see. That's fine, I was just wondering. I always find it interesting to see what others think about my country when they visit, that's all. If you do go to England though, that'd be SO cool. Ooh, I see. I don't remember hearing about that in my Spanish class, either in high school or in college. Then again, it was all basic stuff we learned...
I'm sure you're doing wonderful!
no subject
Date: 2009-02-23 11:32 pm (UTC)...I wish I could say it gets better, but it doesn't, not really. You just get used to it, I guess. ^^U
But the stories are hilarious and they do get better with time... how far did you read?
Nodame Cantabile is awesome, and if you have some knowledge of music you'll probably enjoy it even more. Nodame is actually the anime/manga character I'm most like; which isn't really something to be proud of. ^^UUU
Not that often, no. Only when I come across some word that escapes my efforts to understand it, or when I'm fishing around for words to say something I can't quite remember how to say.
I use them mostly when I'm studying, teaching, or writing fanfiction. The Tehsaurus is rather handy when it comes to descriptions, I'll tell you...
Well, stressing words in sentences is considered advanced learning because it's not really necessary to make yourself understood, but it is a factor if you wish to sound a bit more like a native speaker, so it's no wonder you weren't familiar with this concept.
no subject
Date: 2009-02-24 03:53 am (UTC)Oh, you teach? I know you were studying to become a teacher, I didn't know you were doing it already! Thesaurus...I love thesaurus'! So useful. One thing I struggle with in fics is not using a characters name too much. I'm always like, "I said Zoro in the last sentence, how can I write him now?"
I don't even think about stressing words. Now I'm going to be hyper-aware of how I talk, LOL!
no subject
Date: 2009-02-24 04:24 am (UTC)There is a thirteen-episode-long anime going around (and it has been scanlated) which follows the manga a bit more closely, though there were some changes to maximize the comic relief...
You don't really need that much knowledge of music to watch/read Nodame Cantabile; they explain most of what you need to know... though a couple of inside jokes about the music world will probably go over your head if you're not used to it (like the fact that primma donnas are considered to be self-centered bitches who think they make the world go around, for example. There is one supporting character that has all the clichés attributed to primma donnas it makes anyone that has had to deal with one snicker. XD)
Don't worry about it, though, those jokes are few and far in-between; most of the humour is universal. :)
Well, I have a couple of private students. I mostly tutor people who need a bit of help before an exam, though I've had a couple of students I had to teach almost from scratch. It's a good source of practise (not to mention some much-appreciated pocket money ;D).
Oh yeah. I go mad trying to find equivalent expressions. Watanuki is "the boy with the mis-matched eyes", "the weird boy", "a certain bespectacled teenager"... and so on. It all depends on whose point of view I'm using... but there is only so much you can do before you start repeating yourself over and over again, and certain expressions have been overused to the point that it makes me want to scream every time I read them... like "the archer" for Doumeki and "the seer" for Watanuki. Or somebody using "orbs" instead of saying "eyes". :P
no subject
Date: 2009-02-25 04:13 am (UTC)Um, is "Nodame Cantible Paris" the same thing, or no? Should I keep searching?
Ahh. I bet you're a great tutor *nod* Hey, practice and money, sounds like the perfect solution!
YES. Ugh, "orbs". When I used to read het -- years ago, lol -- people would often use the world "globes" to refer to woman's breasts. It makes me shake my head. I've never talked about that with anybody before. I just struggle alone to find alternative descriptions for characters. What we authors go through to write our fanfiction *shakes head sadly* =P

Date: 2009-02-25 05:06 am (UTC)RIGHT! DEATH BY RADIANT SMILES. THAT DOESN'T SOUND SO UNPLEASANT. *nonchalantly "drops" a pillow case for you to store the pictures in safely, hoping nobody wonders why I just happen to have one*
ISN'T IT? WE FANGIRLS ARE SO SPECIAL. It makes me wonder if there are any fangirl/boys on the staff...wouldn't that be awesome? (Really? SPN innuendo's, huh? I like that!!) YOU ARE THE FIRST TO WELCOME ME WITH OPEN ARMS. I snorted soda when I read your response to that. Well, mostly I'm just trying to figure out where to place the "examples" of Zoro/Sanji moments. Like, where do they go? How do I go from talking about them as individuals to them as a couple? :O But if you think you can help, I might just call on you
like Batman.lol That's great reasoning. They're not wasting your money, after all. (I'd buy it too. And I'd buy it for others. Too busy enjoying, yeah? It could be that smelling the books isn't as odd as we think it is. LOLOL "Youths these days!" I could just picture that look. Ahh, old people are so fun. Oh, all the time! People generally give me a wide berth once they spot me sniffing books. xD AW, THANK YOU. *snuggles*)
I think they might have hinted at teh ghei, but...I'm not sure. WELL, THERE'S UST, SO. WHAT'S IT CALLED WHEN IT'S RESOLVED? Haha, I don't draw. Unless stick-figures count? I'm very terrible at it. But that's fine, I enjoy writing more.
RIGHT. CERTAINLY NO PICTURES OF GORGEOUS MEN. THOSE TISSUES WERE SIMPLY...A GIFT. FOR NO REASON.
LOL Get to it when you can~

Date: 2009-02-25 05:38 am (UTC)Globes.... that's a new one (can you tell I haven't read het in a while? XD). Seriously, I know it can be hard to write, particularly if you are new, but shortcuts are never a good idea. That, or using purple prose. 'His ardent tongue licked the pulsing, violet member of his one true love, whose amethyst orbs closed in utter ecstasy as his man-root was swallowed whole.' *shudders*
(I mean, I can understand shying away from words like "dick", but what is wrong with the word "eyes"?!)

Date: 2009-02-25 05:50 am (UTC)I've never been able to read/watch Dragon Ball, for example (or any Toriyama work, at that), because of the art. It irritates me on some fundamental level I can't really explain. That, and I've never been able to drool any of the characters, and my bishounen drive tends to get itchy after half an episode/chapter. I need ma bishouneeeeen!!

Date: 2009-02-25 06:02 pm (UTC)THAT WE ARE. FANBRATS FTW! XD aljf;lfjd it would!
i secretly believe sera gamble (spn producer/writer) is a fan of castiel/dean. okay, not really. but it would be so cool. 8DDD(yes! they've, i mean, they've commented on it, the innuendos. xDDD) I SHALL ALWAYS WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS. VROOM, VROOM. ahahah! 8DD are there any particular places where the examples would fit? i mean, if you, say, talk about why they're an otp, that'd be the perfect place to put an example of a zosan moment that has one of the reasons (or more) why they're an otp. okay, that sounded confusing. um. xDDD and individuals to a couple, well, do you have 'em all in parts? a part for zoro, and sanji, and then for them as a couple, 'cause then it'd be pretty easy. i'd just probably allude to their relationship in the individual-parts, and go from there. I'M SORRY, I'M TERRIBLE AT EXPLAINING.to the gheimobile!exactly. 8D but it is pretty dumb, though. but then, flowers are considered romantic, along with chocolate, and, well, how often do boys understand stuff like that on their own? XDD (ahaha, yep! i mean, who cares about strangers when there's a perfectly good book to smell? :D and they are, lolol, only not when they're grumpy. 8D i often smell books in bookshops, too. i try to do it so that people won't notice, but sometimes they do, and, um. and sometimes i keep, y'know, stroking the books, especially if the cover's pretty and the pages are all soft. xDD; HEE! *clings*)

Date: 2009-03-05 05:27 am (UTC)I don't remember putting any spoilers in that paragraph. Mostly I just babbled about Doumeki and Watanuki's "special" relationship.
I keep bothering you about it, I know. I always feel guilty, because forcing you to read something is a good way to make you hate it. But I can't help myself, you seem to like to laugh and One Piece is hilarious once you give it a try. And it's shippy.
