Livejournal refused to post this correctly yesterday, so here I am trying to post it again:

Day 04: List three really long fics (minimum 25,000 words) that you really love.

I'm pretty sure this meme will be difficult forever!

1. Calling Down the Lightning by dreamwaffles (55498 words) - I love the fantasy genre. So SGA in combination with that is always a win to me. I can't think of a single thing I dislike about this fic :) John's reaction to Rodney's revelation makes sense within the context of the story, and I love Teyla and Ronon in this :D

2. Sheppard's Law by cesperanza (+ post-fic ficlet by bookshop) (34472 words) - It surprises me that I like this fic, since it contains John/Other (and I read fanfiction to read about John and Rodney getting together, not about them with other people. There are exceptions to my dislike of John/Other & Rodney/Other, however.) This is the story of John Sheppard growing into the man he is, with a little help from Rodney along the way ;) I loved John at all ages in this, and seeing Rodney through John's eyes at various ages is interesting :D

3. Checkmate 'Verse by beadattitude (50320 words) - It could be argued that this is a series rather than a single fic, but it could also be argued that this is a single fic, just broken up. I love cat!John, he makes a truly wonderful feline. This fic is one of my go-to happy!fics, despite some moments of angst. It's fun, it's cute, and it's long :D I love that John's cat adventures featuring other characters is explored, but that John stays with Rodney and initially trusts only him :)

I've talked about this fic on tumblr quite a bit, but I've never heard of anyone else reading it.

Event Horizon Books by daughtershade - This just barely made it over the word count minimum :D This was posted after the show was over, and as far as I know a link was never posted to mckay_sheppard. John runs a surf shop and Rodney owns a bookstore (with odd organization). John is sort of this mentor for local kids, and he draws a reluctant and grumpy Rodney into his world :D Featuring Rodney surfing, John being a BAMF, and oblivious!Rodney

Hmmm... I tried to read "Even Horizon Books" once but couldn't get into it. I might have to give it another try...

But, oh, I love the Checkmate 'verse too. Especially Lorne's chapter, where he's basically, you know, giving a report to cat!John... and his comment "I have depths" ... those both always makes me smile...

I really liked it. It picks up once John and Rodney meet - but it's a quiet fic, I think - there's some action-y bits, but for the most part it's just John and Rodney living their lives :P

I'm re-reading Checkmate 'verse right now, and I always forgot how much I love it. YES, THAT SCENE. I'm so fond of Lorne as a character, and I loved that he just goes with it - Commander a cat? Right-o. And I love the little mention of how the marines still salute John :)

Ah Lorne... I must finish "Socii" so I can write my Lorne fic...

I am really excited to read your Lorne fic, though I understand if it's gotten pushed back due to Heimdall :P

I think Heimdall's fic actually occurs in the middle of Lornes... or, rather, Lorne's is a chunk of time that covers "Conversion" and "Aurora" (god, will I ever finish writing S2?)... while Heimdall's covers approximately 10500 years... some of which takes place between "Conversion" and "Aurora."

God.

And then of course I've an Elizabeth fic that's kinda concurrent with all of S2 to date, and a Ronan fic that might take place all-of-time-up-to-"Michael." And a Teyla fic that probably fits best in S5.

Then add that to the fact I work most nights and unfortunately have RL obligations in the form of my parents are moving tomorrow (which somehow has transformed into a 2month long event)... and IDK when it will ever get done.

couldn't actually resist yesterday, so i read event horizon books. because jfc how could i resist rodney with a bookstore? i can't resist anyone with a bookstore, let alone someone awesomecakes like rodney.

also SURFING BOOKS SHARING SPACE WITH THE ROMANCE SECTION, RODNEY YOU ARE SO NOT SUBTLE. ♥

I love Rodney as the grouchy bookstore owner who doesn't really care if he sells his books! And his organization method!

RODNEY, JOHN IS GOING TO NOTICE AND HE IS GOING TO SPEND THE REST OF THE DAY GRINNING AT YOU. SMUGLY. But it's the perfect way for Rodney to say "I love you" without actually saying it :D

I am so glad you rec'd this! I woke up in the middle of the night last night and couldn't go back to sleep, so I read it - and it's great! I really, really enjoyed it!

Ahhhh I'm so glad you liked :) I think that fic should be more popular than it is XD It's very cute, and not too angsty - which is what I sometimes need.
