Make the post you want to see in the world
"Nothing happens to post about in the SGA fandom," I said, and
sgamadison rightly responded that not posting is just making the fandom even quieter. There's more activity on tumblr, but I miss actual discussions. Though I'm giving serious consideration to setting up an automatic crossposter between mcshep-everyday and dreamwidth/livejournal to try and boost the fandom over here.
Anyway, in an effort to bring fandom back to journaling sites:
I've been reading Pegasus Purgatorio lately. I have only read it once, way back when I first joined the fandom, so it's practically brand new to me. It's interesting how the author twisted canon - like making Kanaan the leader of Michael's mutants. I do love the idea of Atlantis evacuating Pegasus planets to empty Milky Way ones, though. I have no idea how John and Rodney are going to make it back to Earth, though lol.
Lately, I've been giving a lot of thought to rereading fics I've only been through once, a long time ago - fics like The Whaleverse and A Face That Nobody Knows. I've also given some thought to reading the Ex Patria series, but I already know that John and Rodney being in an open relationship is going to bother me, so why torture myself? BUT THE PLOT LOOKS SO COOL. But their relationship...but the PLOT... Anyway, If you're cool with that kind of thing, you should check that series out - I've heard nothing but good things! If it helps, I think I was told that John & Rodney are only ever explicitly with each other. I think.
I've been making brief forays in to the Harry Potter fandom too, but I am EPIC picky about my HP fic. All of it basically has to be EWE (epilogue? what epilogue?). I don't care if it's Hogwart's Eight Year fic, or something that takes place more in the future, but I'm not interested in reading fic set back during book 5, say. If you're looking for an amazing author, check out saras_girl. She single-handedly got me back into HP after more than a decade away from the fandom.
I also read Cinderwings, an Dean/Castiel Supernatural sort-of Cinderella AU, but it's so much more than that.
Not too long ago, I finished reading Strong Poison, a Peter Wimsey novel. I was surprised by how fast I became smitten with Peter <3 I already have the next book (I'm focusing on the ones that have Harriet Vane in them) but I have to be in the mood for books.
What is everyone reading these days?

I’m so (relatively) new to the fandom that there’s still so much to discover and read! I just read two super cute AUs that made me smile so hard!

I really like Pegasus Purgatorio - an interesting AU. There’s a partial podfic, which sadly probably won’t be completed, the podficcer having wandered to other fandoms.
And SGA is still my core fandom and the one I read and play the most in, even though I explore a bit elsewhere. That’s not going to change. :)

I recently rewatched all five seasons of Person of Interest and doing some reading in the fandom. There is a shocking lack of PoI/Sentinel crossovers. Just saying.
I've read The Expanse novels and I'm watching the show now that the new season has started.
Honestly, this show is much easier to follow if you've read the novels.
I go through stages where I take out a half dozen books from the library at a time. If the plot sounds good, I'll give it a try.
That said, I read for characters more than plot. If the characters are engaging I'll read about them eating toast and reading the back of a cereal box.
If the characters don't engage me, I don't care how many murders they solve or whatever the hell they're up too. Because I've already closed that book and reached for another one.

While I homeschooled my youngest son during his teenage years, I developed interest in WW ll and read many, many books on it
I have recently been rereading some of that WW ll history and a book written by Joseph Volpe, who managed the Metropolitan Opera for 40 years. It’s surprisingly entertaining. Still my main reads are John and Rodney. I’ve been in the fandom for 8 years and don’t see myself losing interest at all. We’ve gotten some fantastic newish writers and I devour each story as it’s posted. There are probably too many fics that I can read over and over again. Pegasus Purgatorio was excellent and it might be time to read that again. Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves by Auburn has a similar feel and I recently revisited that one.

But I do keep coming back to SGA (and SG1), that's my touchstone and where I have *friends* instead of names-I-know... it really does make a difference.
I was looking at the upcoming SGA Reverse Bang sign-ups (I needed to put the dates on my to-do calendar) and it felt like old home week....
::hugs::
