Summary:

After Atlantis lands in the Bay, John and Rodney are sent away from the city while the IOA dithers about what to do with it. They're given a mission to beta-test a new training environment for SGC recruits. They get to spend a couple of days' leave, then undergo the training mission, at some sort of virtual reality theme park run by a corporation called Delos. Rodney probably should have read the briefing memo more closely.

You don't have to watch Westworld to read this. John & Rodney are so great in it - there's skinny dipping and water wrestling ;) There are some intense, violent scenes, but no rape and all "our" guys get out alive. But it's so good, and judging by the comments/kudos, under appreciated.

I totally get that. It's why I just finished it the other night when it was posted a couple weeks ago - I put off reading it because I didn't know the crossover. But it's easily understandable without having seen Westworld, though you'd probably get more out of it if you had.

All I know about Westworld is it has violence and also maybe cowboys?? But I'll definitely give the fic a try.

Westworld is basically a super high tech theme park. All of the "hosts" are robots (who don't know they're robots), with programmed responses depending on what "newcomers" (aka guests to the park) do and wear (like what color hat a guest is wearing). It's an 'anything goes' park - you can have sex with the robots, kill them, rape them, etc - whatever you want. In the show, the robots start to become self-aware...

!!!!! I had no idea that's what it was about. I got the violence part right at least, but robots! That sounds interesting. And I just learned it's based on a screenplay by Michael Crichton that was made into a movie in 1973.

Yesss. The robots bit is what originally got me interested LOL I've had it on my to-watch list for ages. I had no idea it was based on something Michael Crichton wrote, though in hindsight that makes a lot of sense.

It actually made me watch Westworld (which I did over Christmas and New Year).

I think I'm gonna go back and reread this now I am familiar with Westworld because, although it was easy to follow without knowing the source material, I think I'll get more out of it now that I have.

It definitely deserves more love than it's got!

I watched the first episode before reading the fic, which I'm glad I did. Though it's completely understandable without watching the show, I feel like I understood things a little better.

I really want to watch more of Westworld - the concept is fascinating - but I have to figure out when I'll have time LOL
